I love both but ill give the nod to Rainbow because of Dio and the guitar king Ritchie blackmore i would love to hear some opinions.

That's really tough, but Rainbow were more Power Metal than Priest (not to say they were better).

Judas Priest all the way. Rainbow is quite good though.

You don't think this poster bears a strong resemblance to WiC?

I used the Rainbow fanboyism as my clue.

I'm gonna go with Priest on this one Rainbow only had to absolutely killer albums, those being the debut and Rainbow Rising. Long Live Rock and Roll was pretty good but when you tally things up Priest takes the cake. Stained Class, Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin after Sin...etc.

no you see Rainbow and priest really created the genre. They both contain some of the genres trade marks such as, Priest: dual guitar harmonies, screamin vocals, aand fantasy lyrics. Rainbow: neo classical guitar, fantasy l;yrics and DIo.

Rainbow and Priest were part of the Old Wave of British Heavy Metal. They invented metal thus they are the original masters.

If you see things that way,i agree with you about Rainbow, but i'll add:the true father of the genre is Queen(fantasy lyrics, classical influence, speed guitars, high pitched glorious vocals...andallthis before Rainbow existed)!

I still disagree about Priest:their lyrics are no fantasy lyrics at all;it's about metal, stained class, monsters of steel, breaking the law and partying after midnight, not very fantasy! And Thin Lizzy were more about dual guitar harmonies than Priest.

He does actually. Maybe an outright IP ban is in order?(That is if he doesn't behave himself this time.)

True. I consider Rainbow to be rock, and I consider 90% of Priest's material to be rock, as well. Neither were ever power metal, I don't think.

Winter got banned while I was away? Damn, what have I missed in the past week?

And while Rainbow is great, Judas Priest is Judas Fucking Priest, and the 70s was probably their most consistent era. Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class, Sin After Sin, Unleashed in the East... Great stuff.
