So, I've got and like Painkiller, what's the next album I should go for?

Sad Wings of Destiny or Stained Class, I'd say. most of them have their charms, though.

Anything but Rocka Rolla, Turbo, Ram it Down, or the Ripper albums really. They haven't put out much crap. Maybe Screaming for Vengance?

I would go with Sad Wings of Destiny next, then Screaming for Vengeance. Then again, as has been said already, its tough to go wrong.

I'd go with Stained Class indeed, but Sad Wings is nearly just as awesome. Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith are very excellent as well. And don't listen to most people, Ram it Down rules.

Hell Bent for Leather has some good cuts as well.

Yes it does, particularly that song, which is one of their best... But know that it is also called Killing Machine (depending which version you buy) if you decide to buy it, Zad.

Sad Wings Of Destiny
Sin After Sin
Stained Class
British Steel
Defenders Of The Faith **
Screaming For Vengeance **
Angel Of Retribution(if you don't have it already) **

The ones with the ** are the really must own ones.

since you liked Painkiller, Screaming For Vengance or Ram It Down should be safe bets, but if you want some old school judas priest there is nothing like Stained Class, well actually you cant go wrong with judas priest, the only album i dont like (that much) is Point Of Entry, and maybe you should try the new one Angel Of Retribution, there is a little bit of almost every style of JP in it.

I'd recommed all their seventies output (with the exception of Rocka Rolla) for someone who has only heard Painkiller because they are in the same Speed Metal vein, although obviously not as vicious or polished. The biggest percentage of the eighties stuff isn't as fast, but most of it is still excellent.

Get them all. Even the bad ones.

Funny you should mention Painkiller since I myself have been thinking of buying it. It would probably be my only JP album, though, since I don't really listen to a lot of VERY early heavy metal. What exactly is it that makes the album so loved anyway?

Its just amazing. Fast, aggressive, incredible vocals, pissing solos out of every orifice.

Well, the song Painkiller, for one. An all-time classic which many of today's artists constantly emulate. That's not all, though. The whole album is simply the essence of JP. The speed and technicality of the Tipton/Downing guitar tandem shines, as do Halford's vocals. If you're only going to get one album by Judas Priest, Painkiller is not a bad choice at all. I would still suggest you check out their earlier stuff if you like it though.

It embodies all that is heavy metal. Lumberjacks and pirates listen to it non-stop. Listening to the guitar solos on the title track causes ejaculation every nine times out of ten. Etc..

Bah! Just download them and see which ones you like the best. Rocka Rolla is a favorite of mine. Just because it isn't heavy doesn't mean it isn't good.

Where did I say it wasn't good?

Painkiller is overrated, IMO. Jugulator is awesome, but most hate it because it sounds different musically and vocally, but I think it is brilliant and one of a kind album and one of the most aggressive heavy metal albums.

some of the best lyrics too:

Quote:
8. Abductors

[Tipton/Downing]

Abductors - they come at night

They come at night and they infiltrate you
The paralyse and they mentally rape you
Expressionless they disintegrate you
The probe your soul and desecrate you

Abductors - will bleed your mind
Abductors - cutting inside
They come for you in the night

They strap you in-struments laid before you
And powerless begin to explore you
You scream in pain but they just ignore you
They bring machines and they drill and bore you

Abductors - cutting inside
Abductors - drinking your mind

No-one believes that you
Were chosen from few
Defiled and abused
By alien rituals

You wake in fright there in your room
You better hope your memory fails you
A lower form of life to them
Just one more blood experiment

Abductors - will bleed your mind
Abductors - cutting inside
They come for you in the night

They send you back and disorientate you
A lesser race they discriminate you
Whatever said will incriminate you
No-one believes

The skeptics laugh and annihilate you
They dig you out and they excavate you
Authority and even God forsakes you
No-one believes

Hey maybe I am just a liar

Here's a few more 'gems' from the Jugulator lyrics book

From Jugulator:
Quote:
Jugulator killing time now
Reaches in and rips your spine out

Violator
Big mistake Mutilate

Vindicator
Rib cage break

From Brain Dead:
Quote:
I can't blink my eye or cry
Or even speak
They crowd around my bed
Condescending words are said
Thinking I don't hear or know
What is going on - Hello!
Can't you suckers hear my cries
From inside I'm still alive
It's my decision to abort
Turn off the goddamn life support

From Decapitate:
Quote:
Your head
You will lose it

Severed
When executed

You always thought
You'd never get caught

Decapitate
Sealing your fate

Poetry, Mr Tipton.
