I really apreciate this band that i discovered something like one year ago;i,now,have a little collection of their albums;this is the list:

1.Unity 85/100
2.The Missing Link 80/100
3.Black in Mind 80/100
4.Secrets in a Weird World 75/100
5.End of all Days 75/100
6.Reflections of a Shadow 70/100
7.Perfect Man -haven't listened to it yet
8.Soundchaser-same problem

My question is :do i already have the best?if not,which other albums from them should i purchase?(this is mostly adressed to the Rage connaisseurs) As for the others,a traditional"what do you think of this band?" will do!! :)

I can't recommend this band more. They're killer! I suggest you pick them all up, but make sure you grab the re-released versions with the bonus tracks.

I only own "Soundchaser" and its pretty good. "Great Old Ones" is an awesome song. I haven't really heard much else by them.

I don't really know why you're saying "For Example," but like I said, I haven't heard much by Rage, so of course I'm going to favor Edguy.

I don't really know why you're saying "For Example," but like I said, I haven't heard much by Rage, so of course I'm going to favor Edguy.


"For example" means that Rage is only an example among hundreds of other examples of bands that are waaayyy better than Edguy(imo,of course :) ).

Yeah, great song, but it starts out almost identical to Motley Crue's "Wildside." :shock:

Definately "Trapped!" I have always considered it their best, although the competition on that matter is top notch. For example "The Missing Link", "Ghosts", "Unity" & "Black In Mind" are those close top5 followers on my humble opinion.

BIM is suffering maybe a bit from being overlenght (especially my + 2 track digipak.. ~16 songs) but that's just quite usual a trademark of Peavy Wagner. "Ghosts" has an unique atmosphear, being their mellowest album; diversity from great ballads to speedy&melodic as hell -numbers.

"End Of All Days", as you may also have noticed from your copy, has an minor drawback in weak production as it was recorded 'live' in the studio, a couple of fillers also, on the other hand has some of the catchiest Rage ever written (i.e. the titletrack & Talking To The Dead). As you had "Perfect Man", the two albums inbetween that one and the supreme "Trapped!" are also worthy, quite good classic melodic metal also. I'm talking about "Secrets In a Weird World" and "Reflections Of a Shadow"; songs off them like Dust & Invisible Horizons are true gems.

The first two, "Reign Of Fear" & "Execution Guarandeed" are the only ones I never have purchased, although I am familliar with the material, so it's safe to say they are completely different from the successors of theirs in Rage-backcatalogue. Being trash/speed flavoured as were many of their German brothers-in-arms back in the day 1986-87; the band still keeps a song from each one in the setlist. Crap! how could I have forgotten the "XIII" album from those 'top notches' above... maybe after the by-now-you-know-what :P that would be the one. It took a long time to approve in my case, but finally I just noticed one day that it has no fillers, which is a rarity in Rage-albums, despite the ever-strong material mr. Wagner delivers.

All the 1986-1993 albums have been released by Noise records a couple of years ago with bonuses and much nicer booklets so they are very recommended, esp. in midprice-tag, as I have completed my collection :wink:

Spectacular first post, my friend! I don't think you can really go wrong with Rage. A bad album does not exist in the discography.

Yep. When I first heard it I kind of thought it was going to be an ode to old rock/metal, especially with the name "Great Old Ones," but it's not; it's just VERY similar. I'm not sure how that got by everyone. You'd think someone would have been like, "OK, guys...here's the deal...you hear this song? OK, you know Motley Crue?" etc...

Rage - Great Old Ones

The beginning music sounds like "Wild Side," nothing else. Great song either way, it's just VERY similar.

EDIT: Upon further reading it would appear you have Soundchaser, so you know what I mean. Sorry.

I've heard almost everything by them and I think that every album after Perfect Man is worth it.Unity imo is their best and the most consistent.
Great band and you wouldn't go wrong by checking their entire discography.Definitely better than Edguy. :wink:

Which one would you choose,if you had to,between Gosts and XIII ?

Hmm.. that's very hard to put, depends on the day. If I can give some additional help, then maybe "XIII" is even more symphonic one. When "Ghosts" has a little more tempo on overally looking and more 'driving' feel. The thirteenth album lacks bad songs while the blue album has its own 'eerie' feeling all throughout it.

But the "Trapped!" -I'm telling you, classic powermetal in its finest form :wink: An old recommendation I read years ago said "Enough Is Enough" is worthy of the price alone, how anyone can put and twist words in such a melodic form. Also the live dvd/album released a year ago is very good as an "Greatest Hits" -use alltogether.

hmm yes but not only that song. Theres that deja vu feeling during some of their other songs as well, like soundchaser and when death is on its way.

Prior to Reign of Fear, Rage released a full length album under the Avenger moniker. That album is called Avenger - Prayer of Steel (1985). I like that album a lot. I believe it was reissued a few years ago, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes the early years of Rage in particular.
