I think it's an awsome cover, but let's not be ridiculous :)

Blasphemy. One of the better covers I've heard, though.

Rarely covers are better than originals, and it's not the case with Painkiller, though Schuldiner's effort is quite admirable. Painkiller is not an easy song, especial for a DM vocalist. Chuck did great.

If I'm thinking of all Priest covers I've heard so far, 3 stand out: Love bites by Nevermore is unbelievable, Grinder by Kreator kills, and the best has to be Beyond the realms of death by Blind Guardian, that one is at least as good as the original, if not slightly better.

I say nay. The vocals aren't really my problem... My problem is the complete butchering of Tipton/Downing's solo work. That solo is one of the best ever, and Schuldiner just basically shredded mindlessly over it.

another ruined Judas Priest solo is the cover that Annihilator does. Annihilator i think does a good job, but in the Priest version its just plain better. But Jeff Waters is one of my all time guitarists along with Mr. Tipton.

Chuck does a good job with it, but come on....a cover song is never ever better than the original....except in the case of Gamma Ray covering "Its a Sin" by the Pet Shop boys.

Speaking of covers....Realm does an incredible cover of Elenor Rigby on Endless War.

Frankly, I prefer Schuldiner's by far. But I maybe subjective, Angra has always bored the hell out of me, and surprinsingly they even managed to bore me with Painkiller.

Matos' voice is just too girly for it to work properly.

Well to me it's absolutely pants, but then, this song in its original form is like one of my top five songs of all time, so I'm bound to absolutely hate anyone else's take on it anyway.

Yeah, I've never heard anyone mimic so closely the überly-godly-metalgod-voice of Halford and even surpassing it in greatness!!!!!!111
NOT!

Matos rooolzz!! \m/ ...But I do agree that their version was a bit tame. Back when I bought the album I was really surprised why out of all songs they chose to cover that one... :?

I don't know why you put this in the power metal forum. But anyway, I agree that Death's cover of Painkiller is awesome. What's really cool is the way Chuck manages to do those Halford-esque screams while still maintaining his death metal rasp.
