Seeing that some like this album because they like Owens voice and some that still prefer Barlow's voice I wanted to know what your thoughts on this album.

Me personally I like both Barlow and Owens so it don't matter to me but I thought Tim did a great job with this album.Gettysburg 1863 is a prime example how Jon Schaffer can write some damn good music that alone is worth the price of the CD.

I prefer Barlow just because he is what I'm used to hearing on an Iced Earth album, but Owens did a killer job on TGB. My one gripe about this CD is the production, there isn't enough low end. It sounds a bit thin in guitar tone, too. If it were beefed up a bit, I would have nothing to complain.

Hit, either way.

The Gettysburg trilogy is stunning. What I love most about it is if you read along to the story/lyrics as the song plays, it fits PERFECTLY! I mean, you can actually visualize this shit because the music is just perfect.

This debate generally gets pretty heated. I voted hit. Its definitely not their best, and it gets overly pretentious at times (When the Eagle Cries), but Greenface and the Reckoning are kickass songs. And I second that the Gettysburg trilogy is f'n cool.

Hit. Definitely not their best but still pretty damn good. Owens is awesome. The Gettysburg trilogy is quite good. I can't wait till their new album comes out.

When The Eagle Cries is a good ballad.A very emotional song(espeically the unplugged version)dealing with the tragic events of 9/11 it makes you not forget about that tragic day.

But I agree on Greenface and The Reckoning some damn kickass songs.

And I could write a damn 50 page essay front and back on how great the Gettysburg trilogy is and because I'm a history buff I like the songs even more because it brings you right into the heart of the civil war.

A miss by far.

I've never seen Iced Earth as the band their fans purport, but at least they had some great moments before (Dracula, Iced Earth, some others).

This album was awful in just about every way. Schaffer's palm-muted hackery is comically overdone at this point, I can't stand the vocals, and the songwriting was almost completely boring and aimless. Awful production too.

Also of note, I think Greenface is the stupidest fucking song title ever. And Schaffer's fascination with the stupid parts of history is not one I share. Plus the 9/11 song is just lame, like ALL 9/11 songs were.

I voted miss. Iced Earth has done absolutley nothing for me.

This album probablly sparked the most interest for me, but that is not saying much considering I don't like Iced Earth at all.

I like plenty of things. It just so happens that threads are only made for bands I don't like.

Indeed! Hahaha. You do like Rabbit Don't Come Easy, though, which is OK in my book.

Hit. There are some weak moments (the chorus of When the eagle cries has to be IE's most boring chorus so far), but in the end it's a good solid album. And Ripper kills, as he always does.

Well if it isn't my favorite fucking dissenter. You seem to enjoy pissing on my parade lately. I really don't get too wrapped up in song titles. While I agree that Greenface is a dumb name for a song, it doesn't change the fact that it is a kickass song. If he called it "Marine", would that work for you? Oh well, you know what they say, "opinions are like assholes....". We both have 'em.

Also, I can't stand "When the Eagle Cries". It tries to be uber patriotic but it just comes off cheesy if you ask me.

Miss.

I just found it to be boring and I didn't really like the vocals. I believe I read somewhere that the songs were written for Barlow and if thats true then I think it shows because to me the album and all of the songs seem like they are missing something, like they are just not right. I cant really explain it. I loved all IE albums, even the ones before Barlow. But this one I do not.

Miss.

It really doesn't have much to do with Owens' voice. I prefer Barlow's vocals (although Greely from Stormrider was the best, in my opinion), but the vocals are not what makes this album lame. The songs on the album, with the exception of the Gettysburg Trilogy (which I thought was pretty well done), seem uninspired and lackluster.

If not for Gettysburg, I might have been tempted to vote a miss. Owens has done an excellent job on the album, although personally, some of the songs turned out a little too cheesy for my liking. But heck! Gettysburg was bloody brilliant!

Gettysburg is an album in itself! 3 songs that are a long than other bands' full-lengths!

Hit, hit, hit

Although i am used to Barlow's vocals with IE, Owens is a great singer as well and i liked what he did for TGB. Took a little while to get used to cause of the Barlow thing, but after that it is completely awesome.
IMO, just 1 average track while the rest are brilliant. Attila, Red Baron/Blue Max, The Reckoning, Declaration Day, even the ballad and of course the trilogy at the end.
