Rabbit Don't Come Easy seems to be an album that was praised by metal critics but somewhat panned by fans (particularly those who felt Helloween had a good thing going for them with The Dark Ride - which really wasn't all that "dark" if you think about it) - not even making it on the BNR Top Ten for 2003. I personally think it's a hit despite (until now) being somewhat neglected by me for the past five months. But what about everybody else here?

I vote hit. "Just a little sign" is one of their best tracks IMO.

The rest of the album has some good tracks, not very memorable, but still very solid.

Actually, I feel like listening to "Listen to the Flies." Another good track.

Dark Ride was awesome, this Rabbit album is average at best... :evil:

Personally i think it's hit.It isn't as good as TDR ( that albums is awesome as TIE said).It has some great tracks and unfortunatelly some very weak ones.It's just not as consistent as TDR, but i still like it.

This is a HIT by a mile! Personally I think The Dark Ride is a bit disappointing. A good number of the songs, I don't feel, are as good as they're capable of writing. It's not a bad album by any means, but I think Rabbit is slightly better. And it's a fucking religious album, probably the most Christian-like album they've released, so it's always fun to listen to metalheads talk about it being "dark" and not really getting it! I'm not saying any of you are like that, but I'm sure you at least know some people who think that way.

Anyway, I think Rabbit is a great album and deserves praise simply because they lost a good chunk of the Helloween mainstay and were still able to release a quality album. Some may not like it as much as other Helloween albums, but there's no way anyone can convincingly say it's a bad album.

Hit, it was quite good. Listen to the Flies rips, and there are a number of other awesome tunes on there. There are a few songs I skip, but not enough to sway the album into negative territory.

Haha. I noticed that too. Plus, I wouldn't exactly call Mr. Torture a dark/evil song. Yeah, may be the guitars were heavier and the lyrics generally not quite as playful, but Dark Ride was certainly far from being a dark album (the title track is probably my absolute favorite Helloween song, by the way).

I noticed something similar with Anthrax's Persistence of Time. It's a very moralistic album. Most of its songs directly preach against racism, hatred, etc. And yet, metal fans always call it "dark" and "evil" just because there are no tributes to comic book heroes or rap-metal jokes on the album. Did they EVER bother actually reading the lyrics?

Those certainly don't sound "dark/evil" to me.

I would say its more the instrumentation on Persistence of Time that gives it its darker feel than the lyrics. The riffs are certainly less happy, and the singing too, then on albums like Among the Living and Spreading the Disease.

As for Rabbit Don't Come Easy, I like it. Like nearly all have said, its nowhere near as good as TDR, or the first three Helloween albums (obviously) but it is quite good.

Miss,hated it after the first listen,worst helloween since Chameleon IMO.

TDR was a lot heavier then most of the other Deris era Helloween CD's.It's not certainly dark as in evil or atmospheric but it is indeed a darker album then any other Helloween albums.

Now as far as Rabbit it's a hit not as good as some of the other Deris stuff but it's good nonethe less.

And by the way I think they need to stay away from animals being in their album titles with everyone rippin on PBGA and Chameleon some thought that this album was going back to that era because of the name lol

Well my loss then ,no really i just dont like that album.

There are some killer tracks on that album, Never Be A Star (VERY reminiscient of Perfect Gentleman), Liar, Listen To The Flies, Just A Little Sign, Open Your Life, Don't Stop Being Crazy, and Hell Was Made In Heaven...all kick ass!

Do You Feel Good is probably the only song I don't really care for.

Madness Of The Crowds, on the Just A Little Sign single is another really heavy tune worth checking out from that album era.

A hit, but still a bit disappointing. A perfect album was never going to emerge from the turmoil of the previous couple of years, and I remain unconvinced that Sascha Gerstner was the right choice as guitarist (wasn't Berndt Aufermann still out of Angel Dust around that time?).

Do You Feel Good is crud, it shows what a bitter bastard Weiki is - including the song was a total 'fuck you' to Kusch and Grapow. Nothing to Say is pretty bad as well.

Since this topic I have been listening to "Rabbit Don't Come Easy" none stop. I forgot how much I love this album. Disregard my original post about no memorable songs. This album has many killer tracks.

f0sh0! And yeah, "Nothing To Say" is a good song, but not great.

Do You Feel Good? is actually an outtake from The Dark Ride sessions (hence the fact that it's the only song on RDCE that uses A-tuning). I agree that it's probably the weakest song on the album, though Andi Deris does use some nifty vocal tricks in the verses. As for Nothing To Say, are you crazy? Even the reggae parts were kind of cool (if just because they were so unexpected) and the riff that plays after the verses kicks ass. I don't get how anybody could not like that song.

By the way, was Do You Feel Good? actually recorded during the Dark Ride sessions or was it just a song lying around from that album's sessions that the band decided to "re-record" for Rabbit?
