I know "Dream Theater" in the way that I only had and heard one album, which is "Images and Words". It's simply GREAT !!! But it's all I know from them. So, here's my question: Which of their albums do you think is the best, or, let's say it in a different way, which one should I buy NEXT to have a better idea of the band ??? I'm quite confused since they have lots of albums... Thanks ! |

Definately go for Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory. Awake would be my second choice. |

Awake would be my second choice. Yes i second that, Awake is my 2nd fav album from them followed by Metropolis pt 2. And if youre a fan of live stuff, then i recommend Live Scenes from New York, truly amazing concert, LAbrie has really improved his vocals as time has gone on and just listening to A Change of Seasons alone makes the purchase a classic . |

I'd say a word of caution that Awake and Metropolis 2 are much harder to get into than I & W. |

"Falling Into Infinity" for beginners. "Images And Words" is better (My favorite DT album), but "Falling Into Infinity" has a more 'commercial' sound and it's a bit easier to get into. If you like those, check out "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" and "Train Of Thought". Then go to "Awake". |

Awake would be my second choice. Another 'vote' from me, I think Metropolis II is probably their best album so far, followed by Images and Words. They are close in quality, but different in sound. Expect heavier and less accessible music. |

I would definately say go for Awake. It's a great album. All the others are good but if you like Images and Words i think Awake is their second best album. |

![]() I think I already did my choice...but you can keep sending suggestions, of course !!! I say try Ghost Reveries by Opeth... it's just how DT would sound if they we're something else than a bunch of useless wankers ! ![]() and if you REALLY want some DT (which I can't understand) then Octavarium is their more acceptable... |

I like some Opeth too. But I only have the album "Damnation". Great one (I have a very good CD collection - in my opinion - haha...), but surely the other albums of Opeth would deserve a look too !!! I'll keep Ghost Reveries in mind... |
