Definitely Lost Horizon. I've enjoyed their lyrics more than any other lyrics. To me there is just no equal.

Other good lyrics would come from Lanfear, Pain of Salvation, Vision Divine, and my second favorite, Majesty :D

Are we restricted to power/prog? If not I'd like to say that I quite enjoy Death's lyrics.. not because of any specific poetic quality, but because they always sound powerful and controversial.. "Without judgment, what would we be?!" and so forth.. a lot of powerful music is made trivial by meandering lyrics, but not them.

As far as power/prog goes, I like how Ayreon uses lyrics to tell stories without collapsing into farce.

yup!

as far as heavy/prog/power metal goes, Lost Horizon has great lyrics on both of their albums.

Gamma Ray, while not so consistent, are quite good sometimes.

Lost Horizon, especially on A Flame..., Nightwish has their moments, Dark Tranquility, Tarot. Cradle of Filth has some awesome lyrics although I don't like their music. In Flames older albums also has some great lyrics.

I almost completely forgot about them!

Yes, they do have some amazing lyrics, especially the stuff off of "Cruelty And The Beast"; it's their lyrical best.

Bruce Dickinson and Dio (moreso in Sabbath and the 80s version of his solo band).

I love the lyrics to Rebellion In Dreamland (Gamma Ray).
