From my perspective, Rage for Order is the only album of its kind mixing cyber-tech-wavey rock with melodic metal. It also is one of my fav' Queensrÿche albums.

Has anyone ever come across an album that ressembled it? I seriously doubt it but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Everything Queensryche's done in the 80's is pretty unique, imo.

The only other band that gives me a similar vibe here and there (but not because they resemble musically, rather because they sometimes seem to strike the exact same melancholic chords in me, and because both singers are so good and so emotional) is Kamelot (Epica/Black Halo period). I much prefer Queensryche though, every single release from the EP up to Empire is an absolute masterpiece for me.

I'm on you with the assertion that every release up to Empire is sheer genius. I still have reservations about Operation Mindcrime, not that it's a bad album just that I was disappointed the band didn't follow the path Rage for Order had opened. Alas, the commercial and critical response was not positive enough and the band backed down in more familiar territories.
Actually, after thinking about it, the closest I can find to Rage for Order is Rush's synthesizer era albums (especially Power Windows)...

Perhaps, but they accompanied that with what may well be metal's finest songwriting hour. I wouldn't change a single note on that album, let alone direction.

+1
Commercial, Mindcrime was, but my god what an album. Every note on that album is perfection, and IMO it is one of the 5 best metal albums period.
