The former lead singer of legendary rock group Iron Maiden has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for fraudulently claiming benefits. Paul Andrews (stage name Paul Di’Anno), of Salisbury, fronted the heavy metal band between 1978 and 1981.

Andrews, 52, was jailed at Salisbury crown court after earlier admitting falsely claiming more than £45,000 (52,000 EUR). Fraud investigators who had been working on the case had apparently viewed online videos showing him performing in front of huge crowds of people. Intended live performances are also listed on the performer’s website.

-------------------------

Still performing while claiming benefits for being unable to perform is just idiotic. Every person has a camera and video camera on them 24/7 these days. Just silly.... :lame:

(sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but I looked around the site and couldn't find anything on this story)

If he would have played those shows in a wheelchair he might have fooled the authorities if they have no idea how singing works.

Serious back problems and singing don't go together in my opinion. I almost broke my back and probably slipped several discs when I was about 10yo (it since healed due to a growth spurt/being young) and I can tell you it hurts to do anything with back issues. Jumping was the worst. I took a 30 foot fall and landed on my ass if you are wondering.

Paul messed up, time to pay the price.

Di’Anno needed Dinero and now is going to get Di'Anal in Di'Slammer.

It was to be expected : as it was recently scientifically demonstrated, the guy's not even able to beat lesbians.

Awww, so cute.

Meanwhile, Bruce flies his awesome band to awesome places in his badass 737...

(LOL at Blaze comment, though.)

I was about 10 years old and the coaxial cable line going from the pole to the house had become entangled in some tree limbs. I was the only person small enough that could climb all the wall up there without the branches breaking since I climbed those trees all the time. Unfortunately a branch did break and down I went! The pain was extremely intense I could feel it in every nerve connected to my spine for hours. I got very lucky I guess considering you can die from about 20 feet. My back was screwed for a couple years until a growth spurt came along and put the discs back into place. I'm not a doctor but that's about the only reason that problem would go away slowly along with 8 inches in extra height. Plus I was young so there were probably enough stem cells to repair any nerve damage that may or may not have occurred. Probably talking out of my ass, but nothing else makes sense since I never even saw a doctor about it. I could move afterwards, so I guess my folks assumed I was okay despite my complaints of pain that would continue until I was about 14.

Don't bother. The guy's insane. I tried everything. I even tried a flawless demonstration with lesbians involved, to no avail.

Obviously, he's a fanatic. On drugs.

Nah he's just a goofball who's hit his head too many times against the wall thrashing to the music of Onslaught.

My best friend, also a devoted metalhead, prefers Paul over Bruce too. He admits that Bruce's range and color is unmatched, but he likes the attitude and punkish rebel style of Di Annus.

Both (my friend and the Walnut) are obviously fanatics, on drugs, and really stubborn, so we have to let them live in their incoherent world where Paul > Bruce. I'm glad that I live in the world where Bruce > Paul though.

Well it could be worse. He could have said Blaze > Paul > Bruce

Many people are like this, you guys are acting like if Paul's era with Maiden was awful, i honestly cant compare both as i like them equal, with that said i think that one of Maiden's best album is Killers.

The music of the first two albums is great, but with Bruce on vocals sounds awesome. The live version of Phantom of the Opera is an example. Love that fuckin' song!

@The Voice : Well, does anyone here made a negative judgement on the first two Maiden albums ? Those albums kick serious ass. Everybody knows that. Those who don't should be shot in the head. It is agreed.

But, Bruce > Paul.
