James Durbin does a Judas Priest song on the American Idol show. Did an admirable job IMO. Suprised it got as much positive response from all the judges. Not suprised Steven liked it tho

I like to see him do Painkiller or The Sentinel.

I think it was rather bad. You got another thing comin' is not a very heavy song to begin with, but they managed to dilute everything, the riffs were dumbed down in several places, they inserted annoying glam leads all over the place, I think they messed up the pace as well and ended up with a song that lacked punch, nerve, spark and everything else a Priest song usually has. As for the guy's voice, it might be good for rock or hair metal, but it's unfit for class A heavy metal. He lack the power, range and determination needed if one's gonna take on a Halford song. He should have stuck to an Aerosmith song or something.

I think he picked an appropriate energy level for a general TV audience. I thought it was pretty good actually.

Why would I listen to this when I could just listen to Judas Priest?

I think it's about introducing others to Judas Priest.

It's American Idol! I had to be glammed up a bit. Guy did a damn good, entertaining job.

Yeah, seriously. This much critique of AI seems like wasted effort.

Guys, I'm not american, I'm not familiar with American Idol or its public and frankly don't care to become either. For me it's just a bad cover, regardless of context. I've heard better covers of metal songs from pop acts.

It just flatout sucks, he's nowhere near Halford on any of the vocal lines in the song. He's too worried about stressing on his own vocal range, as opposed to fidelity to to the song itself, but hey it's American Idol.
