I know Cloven Hoof, killer band indeed. Same goes with Savage, Witchfynde & Pagan Altar, all good bands indeed.
And this thread is not just for me. I see it as an educational topic for all those who think today's metal is the best there ever was.

Of course, I know my classics. From Iron Maiden to Tygers of Pan Tang, Saxon, Def Leppard (if that counts), Angel Witch, Witchfinder General, Raven, Tokyo Blade, Satan or Tank... I've heard them all! What I want to know is about more obscure bands from this scene. I'm sure there's still meat on the bones so give it to me! |

Cloven Hoof, Dragon Fly, and Incubus are my favorites out of the bands that havent been mentioned. Wildfire is good too, but they are strange. Both of their albums have absolutely amazing songs, and then some real head scratchers. Traitor's Gate only has a three song EP, but it is excellent. It's called "The Devil Takes the High Road." Savage's "Loose N Lethal" is probably one of the most ferocious NWOBHM albums you will ever hear. Really awesome as well. I mean realllly awesome. Saracen is really great too, even their last album is excellent. But Heroes Saints and Fools is the one they're known for. Praying Mantis is also excellent if you can handle a more AOR leaning type of band. Still NWOBHM and still awesome. SOme of the best guitar playing of that era. Pagan Altar - every single album is fucking amazing. Don't miss out on these guys. Witchfynde - Great doomy NWOBHM with a maniac vocalist in Luther Belz. Cloak and Dagger has some of the best rockin NWOBHM you'll ever hear. Also, don't limit yourself to British bands. There is actually a larger amount of NWOBHM on the European continent that is far superior but isnt considered NWOBHM by virtue of it not being British. France Spain and Sweden are choc full of bands that blow the pants off of most of the English bands. But that's for another day. |

Tis true, but just as today, the NWOBHM had a ton of absolutely shit bands. Like Spider. Their album Rock n Roll Gypsy is garbage. Even Demon, they should have been better than they were. Night of the Demon is a great song and so is Dont Break the Circle, but everything else is unmitigated crap. |

Night of the Demon is a good album. It's actually the only one I've heard of their discography so I cannot tell if the rest is crap. Also, I forgot More's Blood and Thunder. Not a spectacular album but still a lot better than most of the crap that's released nowadays. |

The singer from More is in Wildfire. He sings better for WIldfire. Funny that no one ever mentions him as being one of the first Iron Maiden vocalists. Paul Mario Day, the forgotten one. |

Legend (the UK one). Death In The Nursery is really good. Gaskin - End Of The World The rest I know is already said. But there's one band, not british but really NWOBHM in spirit: Picture (from Holland), one of the most underrated band of the 80's. And their last year comeback "Old Dogs New Tricks" was one of my last year fav albums. |

I really love both songs, but also both records: Night Of The Demon & The Unexpected Guest. I've listened to some other albums, but I find them dull and without that magic the first two have. |

I'll add Blind Fury, Desolation Angels and Holocaust, if we are also considering non british bands then i'll add Saluter Xstroyes, Stormwitch and Witch Cross too. All the bands mentioned so far are quite excellent. |

Gotham City from Sweden is also an excellent NWOBHM type band. Sotrilege from France is very very awesome as Baron Rojo from Spain. Blind Fury is quite awesome, but I think they may be a little too later for the NWOBHM. I think that movement ended around 84. But whatever, the movement may have ended, but the sound persisted. I guess that's the point. |

I don't think 1985 is too late to be considered NWOBHM. Especially since Blind Fury is basically Satan with another name. |

True, but by then it wasnt really "new" anymore. I guess if we ascribe the ordinary meaning of each word in the phrase New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the music has to meet the description of every word describing it no? I think by 85 it wasnt a new wave anymore, it was just British metal. By 84 most of the NWOBHM bands that were good had either folded, morphed into something new, or sold out. Only a few of the bands were left standing. I don't know that it matters much, but like I said, by 85 there was nothing new about that tye of metal, thrash metal, black metal, and death metal had already started up, so NWOBHM wasnt NWOBHM anymore, it was just "metal." Like I said, don't know that it matters, but I think the NWOBHM tag gets tossed around a lot and gets applied to things that arent really NWOBHM. |
