I think I posted maybe 3 times in this subforum's history before suddenly getting more serious about the genre. Still, my name isn't EmperorPowerProg, so I'd welcome a little guidance.

I liked Gamma Ray's Power Plant a good bit, and I really, really liked Somewhere Out in Space: what other mid-period albums by that band would you recommend?

Also, I checked out Anubis Gate's "The Detached", and frankly I thought it was awesome. More comfortable with songcraft than the Dream Theatre clones I've heard, and they did an excellent job building up the atmosphere of several tracks...with Pyramids being the prime example. I love any suggestions for bands similar to Anubis Gate.

Land of the Free should be your first priority. Then get No World Order and Majestic.

As for Anubis Gate, check out Beyond Twilight. They have the same vocalist.

+1 on December's suggestions. Beyond Twilight are a little more technical than Anubis Gate, but still have the same feel.

As for Gamma Ray, I'd suggest you get Land of the Free, No World Order, and Majestic in that order.

Thanks so much guys! When I was younger I never thought I'd say I liked this stuff...but hey, tastes change. Heck I even brought out those sore thumb Edguy Theater of Salvation and Mandrake albums I own today!

Since both of you responded to the Anubis Gate question, are you familiar with their earlier albums? If so, what do you think?

lol, welcome to the sunny side of metal.

I'm not familiar with Anubis Gate's back catalog. Zad's review is what turned me on to them. 'The Detached' is one of my favorite prog/power albums of recent years, so I really need to explore them more.

Most of 'Andromeda Unchained' is on youtube for your listening pleasure.

Seems like they were less song oriented and somewhat more technical on that album.

Cool, let me know what you think. I liked it, though probably not as much as The Detached.

I am upset with people neglecting the first couple of Gamma Ray albums. Heading for Tomorrow has some really awesome songs on it. There's some weird stuff on it, the same goes with Sigh No More and Insanity and Genius. But they have some really really awesome songs. These albums definately shouldnt be overlooked.

And as far as the above-quoted recommendation, I would not recommend listening to NWO or Majestic after Land of the Free. Go directly to Somewhere Out in Space and Power Plant as those are both better than the last three Gamma Ray offerings.

Well if you read his original post you would see he has already heard Power Plant and Somewhere Out In Space and likes both of them. He wants albums that sound similar to both, the first Gamma Ray albums don't sound like either AND Ralph Scheepers sings on both, therefore not what he is asking for. Nobody is neglecting them. Thanks for contributing the same thing you always contribute though, which is really nothing at all.

I'll read more carefully next time so I don't offend your delicate sensibilities and then incur fanboy wrath. Eat shit and perhaps join a scholarly forum where the forms are obeyed more strictly.

So, you consider 6 year old reading comprehension levels, scholarly? Everything makes sense now.

I'm upset that you're upset that H_T is upset.
And I'll be twice as upset if that doesn't upset anybody else 'round here.
