Found this video on youtube, there's a slew of other live shows from '91 that look like they were particularly awesome. This one sounds best. Ah, my beloved Blind Guardian back when they thrashed.

Awesome video.

This one's even better.

Lost in the Twighlight Hall circa 1991.

Hansi used to have such a great, raspy voice :dio:

He did, I enjoyed it much more than his current "cleaner" style. It has lost its toughness. Also, he didnt layer his vocals as much back then. There were only 20 vocal tracks compared to the 400 they now have on each song.

Speaking of BG and good ole days, I was digging for obscure nwobhm on youtube and found this lost gem, Tyrant - Eyes of A Stranger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E51R2-tM0hk

and it struck me: this sounds like some sort of avant la lettre BG. BG's covers after Demon and Satan are proof of their love for nwobhm, so it's not that unlikely that they were familiar with bands like Tyrant. Could it be that these guys became at some point a direct and huge influence of BG?

I think Cloven Hoof and Satan had a bigger influence on Blind Guardian, but not as big of an influence as old Helloween.

Very metal.

Hansi rocking the denim jacket

Older BG was so darn heavy for power metal.

Yes it was as thrashy as power metal could get. Frantic and heavy.
