I got a hold of their new album.

It's really melodic but still rips like Ecliptica. Does anyone agree with me that it can be a bit too embellished?

See my review.

I think the slightly over the top decorations make it more interesting. Repeated listens, more substance, more intricate.

What's so good about SA? I gave Ecliptica a spin and it sounded like every other symphonic power metal band on the planet. Specifically it sounded like Stratovarius with the guy from Dream Evil singing. Also, there's waaaayyyy too much double bass. I don't get why people prefer this style over older but equally melodic metal that doesnt have as many keyboards and maybe isnt as fast. A good example is why this band is more popular than Silver Mountain?

I read your last sentence like, Ron Burgundy?

I just like how melodic and catchy their earlier stuff was. I know it is impossible to convince HT, but they were original to the power metal world. I think they brought a while new element with Kakko. Although now he is what is dragging Sonata down. Sorry but new Sonata is shit.

I use to think the new Sonata was shit, but I gave it a lot of time to sink in and I actually like a decent amount of it now. It's still really hit and miss, but I understand what they were trying to do more, even when they failed to pull it off. Juliet and Flag in the Ground are both killer songs.

I still think Jani was more involved in the song writing than he got credit for. Cain's offering has proved that, despite what the Sonata fanboys say.

Sonata Arctica is like, one of my all-time favorite power metal bands. Sure Unia was a mess, but the rest of the band's discography is untouchable.

Holy Terror's just pissed that his band will never reach their heights.

I'm not even going to dignify this lowlife backwash with a response....other than this one.
