Ok, since I kinda lost interest in metal for the last 1,5-2 years, tell me what I've missed in the Heavy-, Power Metal area. Try to keep it fresh, because I kept following the big names throughout my non-metal period.

Oh FLingon, I'm so glad you've returned to your senses. Let me do some searching.

Moonlyght
Borealis
Anubis Gate (the first two)
Cage

That's from the top of my head.

There isn't much great stuff from that side of Metal lately, and the retro shit is starting to get boring. Stay away from Helvetets Port!

Galneryus - These guys have become one of my favorite bands. Their singer is completely different than any other power metal singer, but they are def still power metal. Super catchy, super speedy, and still quite technical. (Get , "Beyond the End of Despair...", "Advance To The Fall", "One For All - All For One")

Hibria - I'm pretty sure you heard their debut, but if you haven't these guys are another must. Classic sounding heavy metal, but a lot more polished. They have some of the best guitar solos, oh and the singer sounds like Daniel Heineman.

Dragonland - I know you've heard these guys and their cheese filled power metal, but their latest "Astronomy" is some damn good power metal. They even admitted to taking themselves too seriously on their previous albums. They sound so refreshing with this release.

Fairyland - I know you've heard their debut, and I was ready to dismiss this band as your run of the mill generic p metal, but then I heard "Score To A New Beginning." What a brilliant album. They no longer have Elisa Martin on vocals, and the new guy sounds like a mix of Tony Kakko, Russell Allen, and Jorn. This is over the top symphonic power metal, but done very well. I lost my love for that genre of power metal until I heard this one.

That should get you started, but there are still a ton more. You're going to be overwhelmed with suggestions, so I'll keep mine to four.

I second Hibria and Galneryus, the dragon and the fairy are good, but nothing espectacular.

Hehe, you can't imagine how strange it is to have classes all year full of metalheads and not listen to the music anymore.

Already know Cage and like it very much. Saw a Anubis Gate CD at half price at the only metal store in the city so I'll probably get that with my next salary. Gonna try some samples of Moonlyght and Borealis first.

Yeah, I stopped listening because there wasn't anything exciting anymore, except a few releases. That and the influence of some new friends and my new girlfriend kinda sent me in a whole new direction. But now I'm back, sort of..partially :P

Galneryus- Don't know them but seems like they kick some serious ass. They'll be my first priority to listen to.

Hibria- I remember you go crazy over their first so I got it and it still is one of the few PM albums I listen to frequently. I didn't know they had a new one so I'll probably get this soon.

Dragonland- Never really was my thing..at all. But I'm prepared to give them a second chance since you said they got a little bit more serious.

Fairyland- Heard of them but never checked them out. Great band name  But yeah, I'll probably listen to some songs after I listened to more eh appealing suggestions.

Thanks guys! :dio:

"Ride Forever" is a wicked tune...I'll put these guys on my list.

To the OP, I'd recommend the new Theocracy CD:

Did you read what he asked for?

Just a reminder:

Well I believe I answered that....I gave more than was asked for with the Heavy Load and Isengard...but Helvetets Port are a fairly recent band that fit the generic description he gave. So I believe my response complied with that condition.

Try Manticora or even look to possibly Eidolon, they have some pretty good material.

I'll second Manticora. Awesome heavy power metal.

+1 on Manticora, Eidolon is boring though, avoid them. Brainstorm is better in that style.

Agreed Brainstorm is definitely better than Eidolon but still like them regardless and Coma Nation was a good record.

Its great that someone mentioned Dragonfly, probably one of the best albums to come out this year (or was it last year?). Anyway its definitely worth checking out.

And Heavenly are coming up with an album in the next few months, im pretty sure that would rock!
