Because this album deserves its own thread. Ohhhhh yeah. :dio:

How sad is "The Well-Travelled Man"?

I've got ahold of it. It doesn't have Walkyier on it. I might give it a 70 or something despite that.

You can tell how much Skyclad albums without Sir Martin mean to the Metal world at large. Not a whisper of promotion. No-one cares.

Big, big shame. It's still excellent folk metal, and the new guy has a perfectly enjoyable voice.

It's actually a step up from the last few albums. I really dig this one.

Well that may also be to do with the fact that they're on tiny little Scarlet Records now as opposed to Nuclear Blast, who released the final Walkyier album, and Massacre before that, no?

I'm going to give this one a go soon, Kevin Ridley is unfairly dismissed as a vocalist.

Well, obviously. And why did NB dump 'em? No Walkyier. And no Walkyier = no-one cares.

Possibly, or possibly Blast performed their signature move of quickly ditching them because the sales of Folkemon weren't satisfactory?

You're acting like they always had massive label support and promotion when Walkyier was in the band which is the exact opposite of the truth - they were fucking prolific in the 90s alright, but that was down to their own hard work (Walkyier's departure certainly seems to have affected them in that regard) - just look how many different labels they've been on over the years.

Maybe... you're right that they've generally had little success in the promotional department, but this general ignorance about Skyclad's new releases definitely had a great deal to do with Walkyier, though, which we're agreeing on. I know they're big in Greece and S. America, but all the success Korpiklaani has had is ridiculous in comparison. Arkona and Skyclad, now that's a killer live bill.

I'd say a lot of the success Korpiklaani have had is due to younger fans being in hawt new acts - Korpi formed in an era when metal was on the upswing, and so Napalm are ready to pimp the fuck out of them as a rising new force. Skyclad are now unfortuantely in the position of being old farts and no label is going to attempt to promote a well-established act from a different era to a young set of fans. It just doesn't happen. It's sad really, Skyclad are unable to reap the harvest that they sowed. I'll grant you that were Walkyier still on board they probably wouldn't have struggled to find a label for so long, but even with him they'd never be enjoying the sort of success Korpi and Finntroll are.
