I'm putting this here because I believe Steve Vai is heavy metal, for the most part. Not everything he has done, but a lot of it is. Also, if you like guitars of any style, listen to Steve Vai.

Anyway, I've been listening to "Sex and Religion" religiously... Amazing. Devin Townsend on vocals, catchy yet technical riffs and solos just overwhelm me with happiness. Such an amazing album. Touching Tongue has to be one of my all time favorite songs. Any other fans?

Steve Vai's solo stuff easily kicks Yngwie's ass out of this damn universe. He is a fucking genious... His nre stuff is a little too weird for me though.

Devin and Vai are a perfect match. I would love to hear another full album together.

Yeah I agree.. But i don't think that Vai's straight soloing is very exciting though. I prefer Satriani over him.

Down Deep into the Pain was my favorite track off that album. Overall, the album didn't amaze me but it was pretty good. I think I'm going to listen to it right now.

Good thing you chaps sorted that out.

Speaking of Vai, I have The Ultra Zone, an impulse purchase from a while ago. Should I bother listening to it?

I think I only like Sex and Religion because of Townsend.

Sex and Religion is an excellent album, truly brilliant! :dio:
But Townsend gives it that something extra that makes it so good. Don't really like other Vai albums

Don't know, haven't heard it. I'd like to get everything he has done, but I know a lot of it is... out there.

I have Passion and Warfare which I didn't really like. Vai may be an amazing guitarist but is nowhere near as good as Yngwie as a songwriter. He's definitely more listenable than Satriani though.

Petrucci's solo album is more like the kind of stuff I wana hear from a guitarist.

Yeah Vai is fucking great i love everything he had done until the ultra zone, his way of playing is not only technically amazing but with a lot of passion too, he and Eric Johnson are my favourite "virtuoso" guitarrists.

Didn't say it was bad... Saw a live dvd this summer, and lots of it was just strange.
