Post subject: | need heavy metal recommendations |
i guess the main area i'm picky in is vocals. i don't like high-pitched falsettos or low/gruff vocals most of the time. i like mid-ranged (tenor?) singers who don't need to have a great singing voice as long as they've got a good sense of melody. my favourites would be Mike Scalzi from Hammers of Misfortune/Slough Feg and Brian Ross from Satan. otherwise i just look for melodic leads/harmonies (rather than teh shreddd) and cool riffs. besides those three bands my favourite heavy metal-ish bands are Bible of the Devil, Holy Martyr, Twisted Tower Dire's first album, Manilla Road, Antiquus, Jag Panzer, Valkyrie... and uhh that's all that's coming to mind. Judas Priest, Pharoah, Thin Lizzy and Omen are pretty neato too but i don't listen to them very often. i feel like i've made a thread like this before so if i have then oops. thrash bands with somewhat melodic vocals like Overkill and Artillery are cool too. or trad/stoner doom with faster paced parts like Sahg and The Sword. |

Check out Kiuas if you haven't already. They're a power metal band with extreme, folk and progressive metal leanings. Their singer is not typical of power metal as he doesn't sing with the standard high pitched falsetto. He is gritty, powerful and fits Kiuas' blend of metal perfectly. Check out their recent album The New Dark Age or The Spirit of Ukko both great metal albums. |

heard Kiuas. The Spirit of Ukko holds a special place in my heart for being one of the earlier metal albums i got into. they're not really what i'm looking for though, a little too modern. anyways what i've listened to so far: Wolf - Wolf: awesome guitar playing. the vocals are a little iffy, i'll have to listen to this one more Heir Apparent - Graceful Inheritance: fuck yes! these guys are all kinds of awesome ![]() Tad Morose - Modus Vivendi: too modern, not big fan. |

Heathen is very good, but more thrashy. You could check out Icarus Witch and Grand Magus (Both early and late) |

Grand Magus are solid (only heard their last two). i thought Icarus Witch were kind of forgettable; they have the right sound but i dunno, something's missing. |

I can just remember someone shouting "Barnaby Hoo-fah!"... good times. |

Come on, Holy Terror! I should archivise/classicise it. |

Wolf - Wolf: awesome guitar playing. the vocals are a little iffy, i'll have to listen to this one more Try their last album, The Black Flame, it's their best imo. If you like Brian Ross you definitely have to check Blitzkrieg out. Also, since you like US power bands like Jag Panzer and Omen, try some more: Sanctuary, early Queensryche, Crimson Glory, Attacker, Lethal, Metal Church, Helstar and so on. And since you like Priest, you might wanna check out some Accept and Virgin Steele. LE: Yeah, I now see The Voice already mentioned a few of these. Good for him ![]() |

If you like Warrel Dane check out Sanctuary. The Mirror Black is an awesome album. Wolf's Evil Star and The Black Flame are much better than the s/t. |
