I found this news posted today on Stratovarius website.

New guitar player, and future plans
Aug 22, 2008
By JensJohansson

We have some good news. Earlier this summer, Timo K, Jens and Lauri got together with a guitar player in a forest cottage in west Finland and wrote and arranged some songs. It went extremely well, and we are very happy with the material, the direction, and the general vibe in the band.

We now have over 15 songs written and demoed already, but probably not all of these will make it to the actual album.

We are happy to confirm that our new guitar player is Matias Kupiainen. He was the only guy we even considered seriously. This interesting fellow was born May 11, 1983 and is a native of Helsinki, Finland. and you can find some information and pictures on his myspace page which is here.

Next week, Jörg and Jens will come to Finland as we have booked three weeks of rehearsals and recordings in another cottage. We will then work more intensely on the songs in a real band rehearsal type of situation. Also there is a very good sauna in this place.

We will try to blog a little bit about the progress of the recording and other things. The official band blog can be found here.

In the forum you can see some information regarding the songs, some working titles etc, and some more pictures, and also discuss this.

You can also read it here and check some pictures from the mentioned forest cottage.

Well that's damn good news. I hope that without Tolkki Stratovarius can become more cohesive and produce some decent music. I'm sure they'll be better off without the ever neurotic and tyrannous Tolkki telling them what to think and play. I'm looking forward to hearing new stuff from them.

Without Tolkki, these guys might actually progress, instead of recycling songs and shit like that.

I agree and they should let Jens have more input.

This is really good news. Jens has always been the best part of Strato.

And thus, the jazz-fusion era of Stratovarius begins!

It'd be nice to see a change, but...

I assume you were joking since that would never work... or ever happen in Stratovarius. Kotipelto described the new material as both aggressive and progressive but if I remember right the same thing was said about Unia and we all know how that album turned out.

Didn't Tolkki write all of their stuff?

Well to be honest, given the fact that Jens is a jazz fusion enthusiast and now leading the band, and the new guitarist plays that style too it may not be as improbable as you think. As long as they don't produce an album like the last one I'll be suitably happy.

Yes he did. He ran the entire band from top to bottom. I'm looking forward to a fresh start for these guys. Tolkki just has way too many mental/personality issues.

Maybe they will finally be able to concentrate on the music and stop the bloody melodrama they were in for the past 2-3 years.

I might regain some interest in Strato, we'll see.

It's really nice to see they can get rid of bastard fat Timo!
Jens is always better than Timo Tolkki!
By the way, where's the drummer?

I can't wait to hear their new album!

I have tried numerous time to get into Stratovarius, but I find it difficult. Think it has something to do with Kotipelto.... :lame:
Not that he's a bad singer, just find his approach to singing a bit annoying. :P
