Ive recently been blow away by the music of the French Epic/True Metal band Heavenly. One of my friends really got me to listen to their latest album (Virus) and I was totally hooked from the first listen. In a couple of weeks I managed to find their old albums and have listened to them back to back. Personally I thought "Virus" was their best album and felt that the change of lineup has improved their music.
Im just wondering why is this group still relatively underground with such stellar albums ? Even their myspace page is a mess and it doesnt seem to work sometimes. Does anyone know if they're working on a new album at the moment?
And one more question...does anyone know all bands that sound like them (apart from the really famous ones like Helloween and Gamma Ray) ?

Because they're French... France has never been regarded as one of the nations from where good heavy metal acts came from...

I'd listen Manigance over Heavenly any day of the week. Try D'un Autre Sang.

Manigance is indeed better, but I do like Heavenly's Sign of the Winner. Its a nice though generic power metal album, but still worth listening to.

I disagree....Manigance are very good but I prefer Heavenly over them any day. I feel I could easily get used to Manigance's music and some songs get repetitive..while Heavenly keep evolving with every album. Anyway how are these two bands similar apart from being both French ? :)

Great band but Dust to Dust is better than Virus which I also like.

Virus is my favorite Heavenly, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. If The Winter Wake (Elvenking) didn't come out the same year, Virus would've been my number one for 2006. Awesome band indeed.

Agreed...I just wish the band gets the recognition they deserve..I think they really tried with "Virus".

Although I like Manigance, nothing by them can compare with the sheer grandiosity of Dust To Dust! The amount of melodies are just incredible!

I'd go with Sign Of The Winner over Virus and Dust To Dust. Coming From The Sky is also pretty good for a debut album

The only thing I miss from the "Dust to Dust" album is the double-bass drumming. Their new drummer is pretty impressive but I think the former one was more skillful.

Dust to Dust is the only album I really like from them. It's very good though.

Like mentioned before, Dust to Dust is the best album. You should really try that one.

Ahhh guys thanks for the replies to this post but I already own all of Heavenly's albums...The reason why I posted this thread was because I was looking for bands similar to Heavenly :) Any suggestions ? (apart from Gamma Ray and Helloween).

Heavenly, Yyrkoon, and Benighted. Good enough for me.

Off the top of my head...
Insania (Swe)
Emerald Sun
Icewind
Olympos Mons
Steel Attack
Dragonland
Phoenix Rizing
Morifade
Guardians of Time

...these are the closest comparisons, imo.
:)

Not current Steel Attack, more like from "Where Mankind Fails" to "Predator of the Empire".

I'd also add Highlord to that list
