Seeing as to how this is ultimately the most controversial album in Nevermore's discography, I thought a Hit/Miss poll seemed appropriate. It'd say it's a Hit, but it's probably the weakest Nevermore album overall (that I've heard, at least). The songs aren't as polished or heavy as they were on Dead Heart In A Dead World (nor This Godless Endeavor, for that matter). And the band just sounds too much like they're "going through the motions", without really do anything to broaden their sound. Granted, I like pretty much every song on the album. But the whole is a bit less than the sum of its parts. BTW, I own the Remastered version. So the album's initially poor production is a non-issue in my evaluation of it. |

Some good songs but overall it's a miss. After I, Voyager the album turns quite shitty even with the better production. Nevermore albums have always been a hit or miss for me. Nevermore - haven't heard it yet The Politics of Ecstasy - hit Dreaming Neon Black - miss Dead Heart in a Dead World - hit Enemies of Reality - miss This Godless Endeavor - hit This means their next one is going to be a miss. ![]() |

I agree with Ken. People make too much of a deal with how the original sounded, but to me, it sounds appropriate, and gave a very gritty feeling to the album which really helped. |

People just don't get Neil Kernon's production style. But the issue is probably that it was mastered very hot. Neil also produced Akercocke's last three albums. The man knows how to mix a song according to how it should feel. clarity is not always the best answer, but it is the one I and many prefer. |

Hit as with all of their stuff as far as the production some like the muddy production because it fits their style on that album some rather have a more polish production even on Nevermore's stuff. I'll tell you what that same muddy production would have been perfect for Dreaming Neon Black. |

Yeah, Looks like Kernon wasn't involved with that one. Sorry. I must have been thinking of Dreaming Neon Black |
