Dude, age has nothing to do with this. Cut the shit. This is not just like the 80's! Back in the 80's a band could release multiple albums on the same label, now they're lucky to still be signed 6 months after the album is released! And it still could have sold a million copies.

It is not like the 80's at all. Sure, in the 80's labels signed a bunch of similar bands to make a buck, but like I mentioned earlier, there was a measure of care when it came to the actual bands and their music that doesn't exist today.

Spoken like someone who didn't get into Metal until the late 90's and the internet age. Which is cool, but shit never changes, everyone whined back then about the same shit, just not on message boards. Measure of care? Nah, there was the same stuff, just not all was easy to get with a click of the mouse.

Well, you'd be wrong. Shocker.

The point is that back in the 80's, and even the 90's to an extent, a band didn't need to be HUGE right out the gate! Shall I make the real estate comparison again? That says it all, and that is fact. It has changed and I've been around long enough to know, bud. You may be older than me, but I at least know as much as you. Things have change dramatically.

Yeah right, for every band that toured their ass off like Priest, Maiden, Rainbow, Metallica and others there was one that made it on the back of MTV. This shit like DF, 3 inches of Blood and tons of Metalcore is just the Hair Metal of today. And then in the 80's, just like now, there were always those great bands that just always stayed under the radar. It never fucking changes man. You just don't know what you are talking about no matter what you "read".

Emperor, Opeth, Soilwork, In Flames, even fucking CoB they all toured their asses of and shit, back in 96 they were fucking unknows. Drafonforce has 3 fucking albums out already.

You what else never changes? Metal heads whining about this exact shit....

Coming from one of the biggest whiners on the board! Hahahaha.

Dude, the industry today is nothing like it was back in the 80's. No fucking way. I know what the fuck I am talking about, by the way.

How? You said yourself you didn't even get into Metal until the 90's. How old are you? Not that it matters, but fuck dude, come on man...You know damn well most mid to late 80's thrash was Major label. Nobody gave a fuck about NWOBHM in the US besides a few freaks in 83 or 84. You know how I fucking discovred it.....sharing tapes on the school bus with these twins. Thanks guys for the fucking Saxon, Motorhead, Whitesnake, Maiden, Girlschool, Raven tapes........ Stil all of that shit went popular.

Hell I bought fucking DEATH's Leprosy from Columbia house on Casseste. Same goes for Megadeths first two albums.

Dude when I was in 8th grade nobody listened to fucking Metal, all the sudden everyone gets into Metal Health from Quiet Riot (and yes it was a Metal album) and bam, suddenly everyone is a Metal Head. Just like nowdays with Dragon Force etc.

Bottom line Ken (and I love you and want to see you naked). If you werent banging your fucking head from 82 to 84 when the boom occured then you don't know what the fucking you are talking about with all of this "it was pure back then" bullshit. It is EXACTLY the same as now. Shit goes in waves and in 2 years people will be dissing Dragonforce and 3 inches up your ass as gay shit and we can have Metal all to ourselves again.........

Were you banging your head from 82 to 84? If you were, I will shut the fuck up and you can win. If not, admit you read to many internet articles about the glories of 80's metal.

Metal these days fucking owns any shit and i mean ANY shit from back then.

Fucking Wolf is better then any trad band I heard in the 80's except maybe classic Maiden and Dio Sabbath.

Just so I am NOT misunderstood. I hope Dragonforce makes a billion dollars. Shit I will take them anyday over Fall out Boy or fucking 3 doors down.

When did I say that? I didn't start opening myself up to all kinds of genres until the early 90's, that is true, but I first really began getting into music around 1983 and 1984. I'm 30 years old, not as old as you say you are, but I don't need to be a metalhead coming out of 1982 to justify your comments. In 1989 the music industry was a whole different world.

I hear what you're saying, bro, I do, but to say the industry is the same today is retarded. The ultimate goal is the same: Money. That's no secret, but the manner in which that goal is acheived today is different a hundredfold. Let go of the elitism for a second.

Name changes (and alternate accounts) are gayer than Dragonforce.

With the internet it's easily better for the fans, but far worse for bands. The internet, obviously, playing a huge role in that, too.

Depends on which bands. A lot of smaller ones have gotten big through the net and sites like MySpace. Not always a good thing, but in principle it is.

I wouldn't say its worse for bands, I mean bands that would probably only have some local fans otherwise get to be known abd listened to around the world.

Right, and everyone downloads their music for free.

I doubt most bands would be getting any sort of financial reward from their music anyways... the main bands that lose from internet downloading are the popular underground bands like Meshuggah, Devin Townsend or Nevermore.

Exactly. Some of us like standard rhythm patterns, not because they're simple, not because we like being part of the crowd, but because we like them. Teh shoxxorz.

Oh yeah? A young, unsigned band presses 1000 CDs for $2000, it cost them $3000 for studio time, $500 for mastering the album and $500 for some killer artwork. That $6000. Now they get those 1000 CDs, sell them for $10 each. Selling all of them would get them $10,000. That's a $4000 profit, but they only sell 300 copies because people are downloading the album. Now they're $3000 in the hole.

You think a band like Suspyre won't make money from selling their albums? An album that they financed all on their own and any money that comes in beyond what it cost them to record and manufacture is 100% profit? Pffft! Saying otherwise is just an excuse to say downloading doesn't hurt bands. Downloading hurts all bands in some manner, if it's a major label band it may not hurt their pockets as much as an unsigned band, but major label bands need to sell albums in order to not be dropped from the label, once they're dropped they stop making money, once a label sees a band not selling albums they don't finance tours, or tour buses, or a million other things. Downloading affects all bands. Some bands like Metallica can obviously handle it, but they're still losing money. Downloading is that snowball at the top of the mountain, it's an avalanche when it gets to the bottom.

My point was in regard to the net generally, rather than dloading. Bands like Canopy wouldn't get overseas attention at all were it not for the net. Downloading's summat else.
