How am I not being objective? I pointed out several things that I did not like. Many others agreed or pointed out other elements that they did not like. I think the overall opinion in this forum is that the singing ruins the music. The actual playing of instruments is fine. It is even metal. I never challenged that. I just get the feeling that the only way to be acceptably "objective" is to agree with you. Is it not possible that somebody can look at Trivium on its own musical merits and come away not thinking they are all that special. is it not possible that this band just, in my opinion, is not very good? What makes your opinion more worthy than mine? My overall opinion of the band is that the music itself is not too bad. There are some cool moments but I dont feel there is any payoff. It just doesnt dig deep enough for me. The vocals are atrocious. The clean singing is vomitous. The guy sounds terrible. His approach to singing is also terrible. The vocal lines are disjointed, week when they should be strong and vice-versa. Also, while the music is good and all the instruments are played very well, I feel the songwriting is lackluster. There is no real feeling behind it all. I realize that is an intangible and purely opinion, but I think most on this forum would agree. Maybe its not so much the music that we disagree on ken, but more what you or i expect to get from the music. If you are looking to here a bunch of riffs and some screaming to pump you up then go for it. Enjoy your Trivum. I just cant accept them as a great metal band, because I have heard what great metal bands sound like. and I realize that not every band I listen to is great but I also realize that if a band is great and i hear them it is generally easily recognizable. i dont recognize any greatness in Trivium.

See, you're getting caught up in the whole "what I like" thing. You don't have to like Trivium, no one has to. I'm not trying to convince you to like them. I'm not telling you that my opinion on this album is somehow more accurate than your opinion. I just can't understand how anyone can look at this band and say they have no talent.

Quality and talent are two totally separate things.

I only said the vocalist has no talent. I have many many many cds from many many different bands, and I know you do too, and I can honestly say he is one of the worst I have ever heard. There are a few that are even worse, but he is up there.

I think they're decent with their instruments, but really boring songwriters and his vocals could be (alot) better.

Dont you think that a band with talent that doesnt create quality music deserve absolutely no respect. If trivium is playing under their abilities than I dont see why anyone should waste their time on them?

Plus in the end shouldnt we all stop talking about Trivium and go and listen to real metal anyway? (Just kidding)

(sort of)

I find that to be a most ridiculous statement. Honestly. But hey, if you feel that way, no problem.

But the quality aspect is totally subjective so it doesn't apply to talent. I think Yngwie pretty much sucks as a songwriter, it doesn't mean he's not talented, it doesn't mean I can't respect his talent.

Would you like to argue semantics?

First off, I never said it was the album of the year. And when I made that comment it had nothing to do with it actually being the album of the year! The comment simply said that if a more acceptable band released this album many people—not all—that are slamming it would be praising it.

This is music for people who don't take music seriously, and only skim the surface. Any true music fan would never listen to this band, for they would have piles of much better CDs to listen to before even thinking about Trivium. They are in the right place, the right time, with a label that spends an obvious boatload to promote them. That doesn't mean they are all that great. Good promotion can make shit seem shiny, kind of like Paris Hilton.

Thats such a load of crap..... and i'm going to retain myself from commenting on why, as it is obvious.

Heafy has more balls than half the metal vocalists out there. I really like his singing on The Crusade, and I thought it was solid on Ascendancy. The metalcore-esque vocals were lame, but I thought his screams were pretty good--they sounded more natural to me than Alexi Laiho's bark. Anyways, that song is pretty good...I really like the part that first shows up at the 42 second mark.

Is this CD actually out yet or is it just up for download?

All right...I'll have to download it and make my friend jealous. He's a huge Trivium fan...I don't really know why, though--they're pretty good, but by no means worthy of being a favorite band.

EDIT: I looked for it on isoHunt and couldn't find it. ?

Man, I'm SHOCKED I haven't been banned yet. What irritates me is when people call a rock band a doom band or something, or when the jackass said he was going to download the new Maiden album to "support Maiden." Hahaha. That shit kills me. I can't help but be sarcastic and I always get warned by the mods.

I also get annoyed with people who whine about people downloading the torrent but not thanking them. They're like, "Waaaah! 47 downloads, only 9 people thank me?!?!" And they act mad, like they wrote and recorded this shit. Hahaha.

Anyway, it's a rant for another day.

Yeah, you'd be just like me listening to some of the shit these people say. And the mods there jump on you for anything negative. If you go, "Man, I hated this album!" They'll come in like, "This is an official warning! We're here to share music, not talk bad about it. DON'T DO IT AGAIN!" Hahaha. Sharing? Hahaha.

If, say, Meshuggah* released an album like this, I wouldn't praise it. I'd be deeply pissed off. So, essentially, dear K, you're wrong.

I nearly put "sounds like nu-metal to me" in here, but I thought since you'd been so polite to Craig and all...

* Or Enslaved, Slayer, Ephel Duath, Satyricon, Gorefest, Cryptopsy, 36 Crazyfists, Bruce Dickinson, Judas Priest, Candlemass, Megadeth, Ion Dissonance, The Ocean, Burst, Deftones, or any other band you could care to name that I have any liking for.
