And for the record, i was not the 1st person to bring up Edguy in this thread. The 1st person was "zefferon". Back in the 1st 5 posts in this thread.

you can like it all you want, but don't come to a message board proclaming that some happy ass metal band is better than actual metal bands, bands that are very good. This thread was about 3 bands, yet this asshole come over and highjacks the thread with his favorite band: Edguy.

I will agree that hijacking threads is pretty stupid and pointless. Still, I don't think that my preference for a band you don't like is grounds for calling me a dumbass. I never said that any of these three bands suck. In fact, I love Rage and Grave Digger. I'm not completely sold on Running Wild yet, but then again, I've only heard Victory. What would you suggest I listen to?, since you seem to be a pretty big fan. Their catalog is pretty damn big, and I'd rather just skip to the good parts.

Just had to get the last word in, didn't you?

What about Pile of Skulls? They have it used at a record store near my house for pretty cheap.

Oh yeah, asshead=you. We're even again.

Indeed, its just like WiC to try to have the last say. But you've gone a bit soft lately. I remember you being heaps more harsh to people in these forums. Constantly getting into arguments that went for pages and pages....

Pile of Skulls is great too, but Blazon Stone is probably their best, but I am sure you will like Edguy better.

That's not necessarily true. Like I said, I've only heard Victory. I doubt that's where you would tell me to begin a crash course in Running Wild. Besides, I like my fair share of grim metal (Nevermore, Amon Amarth, Emperor, etc.). I don't dispute the cheese factor on an Edguy record, I just don't get put off by it as much as you, that's all.

Running Wild is uplifting, but neither happy nor grim.

I would say, in a weird way, that Amon Amarth (although grim) is uplifting in the same manner, as is Iron Maiden. Amon Amarth due to the Viking epic stylings, and Iron Maiden because, well, they're Iron Maiden. Since these are two of my favorite bands, there's a pretty good chance I may like the older Running Wild stuff.

I'm just listening to whirlwind atm.....not too impressed. The guy's voice sounds annoying. I dont know if its just the production...it was recorded in '92. It sounds like the vocals are in the background and they echo a bit like it was recorded while standing in the smallest room in a house.
Do the latest albums sound any better?

I told you to listen to other songs, didn't I? Echoes I think are there on purpose, it is their style.

Thats because bands like Edguy, DragonForce & Freedom Call are damn great. Look at the reviews they get, very high, almost perfect scores.
Whats your problem with "happy" sounding metal? Does it affect your day to day life?

that is a horrible reason to like these bands. And happy metal....is well gay. its not aggressive and its mostly boring, the bands you just listed are the most generic bands EVER. They havent added anything to metal, or even put their own spin on the genre...they choose to sound exactly like the other bands....they are riding the wave and show up for the "pose". That is why they are bad.

But go ahead and like them, I'm not saying you shouldnt. But using album reviews from the media, who of all sources you should trust least...is a very bad idea. I'll admit it, I used to like Freedom Call, but then I heard the song "Living in a Fairyland"...its quite possibly the gayest song ever written, they are the back street boys of metal...and its upsetting.

Also....I dont know if this is what WiC was going for, but Running Wild, Rage, and Grave Digger, are better than Edguy, for the sole reason that they were there in the beginning, they arent riding the wave of Euro metal simply because they started the fucking wave. how could a(n) impos(er)ter be better?

So i'm not telling you that you're wrong....which I think you are, but thats not the point. I just think you need to cite better evidence than personal opinion....and album reviews.

Zeppelin is the greatest band ever...and all of their albums got ripped apart by music columnists. So you're point is moot.

I love all those bands, and I mostly agree with you on this (especially on not judging an album by its media reception). However, I do want to say one thing. Just because a band or bands started a genre or wave doesn't mean that they have to be better than every band that comes after them in said genre. I agree that much credit is due to the originators, and if some dipshit tried to say that Dragonforce started it all, or some stupid comment like that, I would call him a moron. That said, it is possible for someone to copy someone's style, and do it better. I'm not saying that is the case here, but it has occurred before.
