I agree with the trooper(hope you don't mind me calling you that  ) once it comes to Demoliton. Yes, Demolition was a different kind of album. Ripper is a fantastic vocalist and if anyone comes close to perfecting the Halford scream, it's Ripper, an able replacement for Rob. Coming to the album, except for instances where i felt some songs were dragged a little too much, i feel demolition is a very strong album. I'd give it an 85/100.

If they had taken Ralph Scheepers instead the music probably would have kept that Painkiller Era sound....instead of ....not...like they ended up doing.

Thanks for the backup, Serpent, i know i am very much on my own when it comes to praising Demolition. Sure it isnt your traditional Priest sound, but who cares. I take each album as i hear it, and i liked what i heard on that album. I cant say the same thing for Jugulator, however. Probably my most disliked Priest album.

As i am not into their 70's material, our views on Priest as a whole are very different. Some people consider SWOD to be their favourite or in their top 5, but i have it placed right next to Jugulator, on the bottom of the list.

I said in my previous post that for me, there is only a sprinkle of good songs from SWOD to Point Of Entry (with the exception of British Steel, as i liked almost all of that album) before i much prefer Screaming For Vengeance and onwards.

These songs include:

Troubleshooter (Point Of Entry)
Starbreaker (Sin After Sin)
Beyond The Realms Of Death (Stained Class)
Heading Out To The Highway (Point Of Entry)
Delivering The Goods (Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine)
Race With The Devil (Sin After Sin)
Solar Angels (Point Of Entry)
Burnin' Up (Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine)
Better By You Better Than Me (Stained Class)
Desert Plains (Point Of Entry)
The Green Manalishi (Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine)
Diamonds And Rust (Sin After Sin)

I very much doubt it since the two albums were written without Ripper being present. With the two non-Halford albums Tipton and Downing sat down and wrote the songs, then called up the other three band members to get together for recording.

My top 5 Priest albums would be
-Painkiller
-Sad Wings
-Screaming For Vengeance
-Sin After Sin
-Stained Class
(maybe not in that order)

What's even more great, is the time painkiller was released. Back then metal was almost dead (sales-wise), grunge was at its peak, and big bands like Metallica started to follow suit (Black Album). So everyone was waiting for the Priest's next move, and here comes an album with blazing guitars and screaming vocals that sent all mellowed out grunge crybabies back to the marihuana pit that spawned them!! And so real metal survives till today and we can talk about it in this lovely forum :)

Painkiller was released in 1990. That was still about a year before grunge music really took off. Coincidentally, it was released around the same time AIC's debut Facelift was released.

And despite being the only JP album I actually own, I voted "Yes" since it's such an awesome album.

Painkiller is up there on my top 3 JP albums, but I certainly wouldn't say that it's easily their best. IMO there isn't much room for improvement above albums such as Screaming for Vengeance and Sad Wings...I voted undecided.

Saying Painkiller has filler songs is blasphemous. The offending parties should be banned from the forums and then have their testicles ripped off by leather clad men.

Go ahead and ban me then, the whole album is filler except for Touch of Evil and the Title Track. I don't get why people think this is a great album? Because Ram it down sucked and Turbo sucked and they did ok on this one? Get real people. Fucking Stained Class, Sin After Sin, Sad Wings, British Fucking Steel, Hell Bent for Leather and Screaming all kicks it ass. Any Primal Fear album is better then Painkiller.

How any Priest fan could dislike Hell Patrol is completely beyond my comprehension.

Actually Hell Patrol is the only song on Painkiller which i didnt think is all that good.

Hmmm, thats a very very tough call. I love Primal Fear more than Priest....but any Primal Fear album better than Painkiller. I'm not sure...i dont think PF's first album beats Painkiller....or their 2nd.

Primal Fear's entire career is based on trying to make Painkiller.

It's really hard to decide. They're early albums came out when heavy metal was still in its infancy. There were few (maybe even none) bands that came right out and said "we are a heavy metal band" besides Priest. In fact, it was very hard to distinguish between hard rock and heavy metal since metal hadn't reached levels of heavyness that clearly seperated it from hard rock. Fast forward 15 or so years, thrash metal is reaching its pinnical of success, glam has become so absurdly over the top and extravigant that it will soon meet a rather sudden demise, and death and balck metal are about to come into their own.
Painkiller had the benefit of 15 years of metal evolution and therefore has influences from bands that didn't even fucking exist when their first five or six albums were released and a lot of those bands were originally influenced by none other than judas Priest. Painkiller has relatively modern production and sound and a clear thrash influence. It's also by far the heaviest album that band ever did. And while it's my favorite Judas Priest album I don't know if I can justify calling it their best.
I don't remeber what I was really trying to get at with these two longwinded paragraphs but what ever. Fuck it!

All Hail the HELL PATROL!! \m/

I second that! Except that Jugulator is by far the heaviest JP album.
