The main difference when I compare SA to Stratovarius is the fact that Stratovarius is more guitar riff oriented and in your face.

SA is more power chord with singing melodies for most of their songs, with guitar being out of your face.

To me, I'm the opposite as most. I think their 4th release is their best. Their first and 2nd have some awesome songs, but they feel too much like a copycat band of the "Stratovarius" style. I however got into SA with their 2nd album - and I liked it but it seemed to much like other power metal at the time.

Their 3rd album they drifted from that, but thats where they lost the guitars being an important part of the song. A good album, but I still don't listen to it that much

The 4th they brought guitars back, didn't write typical power metal speed songs (1st album), and did some awesome chorus and vocal work. Plus, the melodies were as strong as ever

Don't Say a Word and White Pearl, Black Oceans (Might be the best song they've done) are jewels on that album

A good band for sure! To me, I like they way they've progressed. And I've always loved their ballads - especially when you realize some of the back stories of their songs. The lyrics are always one of their best qualities.

Example - if you learn the story of "Draw Me" and why it was written, that song becomes so much more powerful. With the pause and everything. It can make sense without knowing the story, but if you learn the truth behind it - it's a stunning piece

The main difference between Stratovarius and SA is that Stratovarius is crap, while SA is a talented band(even if they're not very metal)

I think I disagree with you more than I do T.I.E. (the other senior citizen on this site)

Why?

Well, you seem to dislike or disagree with most of the stuff I like, and the other way around.

But why more than TIE? Do you think he likes Stratovarius?

Let's try one thing:give me your top10 favourite bands, just to see how many of them i dislike! :)

In what genre of metal?

Actually I have tried this before, and I can never come to a conclusion.

3 of your favorites are also among mine!!!

1.Megadeth:i was really a fan ,when i was in high school(i saw them 3 times in Paris, the first time,it was my first metal concert ever-the Youtahanasia tour);only one album they did really dissapointed me,and it is not Risk:it's World Needs a Hero(fuckin' uninspired)
2.Iron Maiden:i saw them 7 times live(in Paris),and 2 times Bruce solo.I really was at the peak of my Maien madness in 95,so maybe that's the reason why i really like Blaze Bayley,The X Factor album, and why i regret Bruce's return(also because his solo albums were great, but so are Blaze's too).Biggest dissapointment :Dance of Death
3.Blind Guardian:one of my favorite bands i discovered in the last 2 years,maybe also because i'm a Queen fan;but i've never saw them live,and i don't have their 2 first albums.

4.Helloween is nearly one of my favorites:i discovered them 11 years ago,and still like them(which means they're pretty good);st & Walls of Jericho kick ass,The keepers are great too;Deris era is ok(my favorite is Time of the Oath);saw them live twice(only as an opening act for Maiden);there are two albums i don't have:Dark Ride and the new Keeper.

As for the rest;
Never could get into Townsend and SYL,every time i've heard a song i didn't like it.Never really listened to In Flames but i've heard they've sold out, hehe!I'm not really into swedish melodeath,i have only At The Gates'Slaughter of the Soul and the last Dark Tranquility, and i like them.

Now you know i hate Stratovarius & Edguy :D !!!
The problem with Edguy is that i can't stand Tobbias ,i just hate the person and his singing,he's overrated as hell;the rest of the musicians are below average;the songs are ok ,but cheesy. Now ,it's true i don't have the first 2 albums, but will they make the difference?
I only have 3 Stratovarius albums:Visions,Infinite and Elements Pt 1.And while they're much better musicians than Edguy, they're very uninspired, and the level of their lyrics proves they barely speak english. And they're fuckin' cheesy!!!!A guy told me i should get Dreamspace.Do you think this album could change my opinion?Or should i get Episode or Destiny,i dunno!

Last but not least, here are some of my favorite bands:

Thin Lizzy,Queen,Rush,Guns n Roses,Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Metallica,Type o Negative,Manowar,Deep Purple Saxon,Scorpions,Kreator,Skid Row,Judas Priest ,Slayer,Motorhead,Sonata Arctica,Obituary,BOC,SymphonyX,Van Halen,Aerosmith.

PS:who the hell are Windir,DragonForce and X Japan?

ok man, Windir is the fucking best !!! This soul band kick ass.
DragonForce is messy, its the poorest group ever seen. Dont even think about listening to one of their songs. Trust me, its very very miserable.
And for XJapan : ...idem
Dont forget : NPG and mass attack rules
Michael B, TOnny M and me , we get funky !!!!

I like a lot of those bands as well. We're not so different after all.

Windir - This band got me into black metal.
DragonForce - I am a sucker for speed.
X Japan - I'm surprised you haven't heard of these guys. They are no longer together, but in their day (which wasn't my day) they were fucking great. This was a band that got me into fast paced metal with high pitched vocals.

Edguy and Stratovarius RUUUUUUUUULE!!!!!!

DragonForce - "Sonic Firestorm" or "Valley of the Dammed" (Their only two releases as of now) “Inhuman Rampage" is set to release in Jan. 06, but has already leaked on the internet. That album is AMAZING!!!
They play very fast. VERY fast. They are also catchy as hell.

Windir - If you like Black Metal, then you'll like these guys. Sometimes they are mistaken for Viking Metal, they have a lot of chants and war cries in their music, but I just consider them melodic black metal. I believe this is as catchy as black metal can get. I recommend "1184" or "Likferd" for beginners, although my favorite release is "Arntor" b/c it's production and writing fits the troo black metal sound. That and I believe Valfar did the album by himself.
Valfar, the front man died in 2004, but his legacy lives on through a band called Vried. This band was formed shortly after his death by the band mates from Windir.

X Japan - This is one of the greatest bands to walk the planet. They were very over the top with their image; BIG colorful hair, make up, feminine attire. But their image did not reflect the quality of their music. They played fast paced metal. Sometimes they played very epic songs, sometimes they played so fast your head would explode, but most of the time they were just catchy as hell.
I recommend "Blue Blood" "Dahlia" and "Art of Life." They also have a few greatest hits albums for sale as well.
They broke up b/c (I'll keep this short b/c I need to finish writing my speech) Hide hung himself, Toshi joined a cult, and Yoshiki (main songwriter and drums) vowed never to play drums out of respect for Hide.
