The listener, you pretentious buttcrack.

+1

While its certainly true that there are shitty power, death and prog etc bands, the entire Nu-metal genre as a whole is fairly shitty according to my opinion and this is also the general consensus among "true" metal heads. Plus, i'd take shitty power metal over good Nu-metal anyday of the week :D

Mudvayne > Mortician

Anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

My grandmother farting> Mortician

My point exactly. :]

Um, hello? Deftones, early Incubus, Soulfly - three excellent, forward-thinking examples of nu-metal.

And why all the Mortician hate? The horror samples too frightening? The minute-long songs too boring? They play to a formula and do it well, just like a lot of bands.

I will agree, I love Fungus Amongus, Science and a lot of Make Yourself. Everything afterwards is just shit. There are about two good songs on Morning View. A crow left of the murder was an embarrassment. Looks like Lance Dirk (I forgot his real name right now) took all the talent with him. It is no surprise because he was complaining about the direction of the band and he was fired for his pessimistic attitude.

I wouldn't really call Incubus nu-metal. More alt-rock than anything, really.

I like Static-X. Especially live.

Edit: But not Wayne Static's voice or Slipknot or Mudvayne but I do like Dope's cover of "Spin Me Right Round" on the American Psycho soundtrack.

Really? Even with the turntables and rapping? I mean, I appreciate their mid-to-late stuff is, but wouldn't you call Science nu-metal of a sort?

YEAH, but they started as nu-metal, and are, therefore, proof that not all nu-metal is shit, as whoever said so before.

I'm going to check this Ayreon out.

Edit: Ken's right, the new song's pretty good. Sounds as if an album full of this kind of music will take more than one listen to appreciate as well, fancy that.

He doesn't know what he is talking about (see two can play these games) Incubus sound slike every other post-Korn band around with science, my opinion is he is basing that on radio hits and assuming it is similar because how else could you call Science "alternative"

Unless there are are simply contradictions of terms. In reality, all non-traditional heavy metal is always refered to in the industtry as "alternative metal" that includes slipknot, Korn, Orgy, Incubus, whatever...

Nu-Metal is a term that came to term from the hit paraders and metal edge magazines, not the industry itself. Kind of like the term "new wave" in the 80's, the industry called it all "pop"

Incubus were NEVER nu-metal!

The rapping and turntables made them nu-metal ? Then Mordred was too... Idiot! :lame:

Cause their drum machine sounds so goofy and they got absolutely no fucking variation in their sound.

Semi-rappy vocals don't make a band nu-metal. If anything, that would make them a rapcore band. Early Incubus had more in common with 311 and Red Hot Chili Peppers (who are not nu-metal) than Static-X, Spineshank, and Korn.

I'll agree with you on this one.

Yaiks, this thread is really all over the place.

Anyway, I didn't like The Human Equation very much but I'm a HUGE fan of The Dream Sequencer so I didn't quite know what to expect. I've listened to the album twice now. Some songs are excellent and others not so great. I especially like Age of Shadows and Liquid Eternity, some of the best stuff I've heard from Ayreon. I'm gonna have to listen to it some more to know if this is a hit or not. It seems though as some material is filler, but once I really submerge myself in the storyline that might change.

I didn't notice any rapping in S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

The defiition of rapping as people seem to applying it can be traced back to Aerosmith in the early 70's but no one considers that "rap-metal" do they? its just a double standard. The kind of rapping going on on "make yourself" is not really what is presented on this early album.

That nu-metal wasn't even around at the time, nor had the term been coined. So how is it nu-metal. Science is a combination of Mr. Bungle and Korn, which were thier influences at the time.
