I dunno if I can come up with 10, but here are some that I really like.

Dream Theater - Awake
Threshold - Critical Mass
Rush - Hemispheres
Beyond Twilight - For The Love of Art and The Making
Degree Absolute - Degree Absolute

I noticed Eyesore put Lana Lane and I as well love everything by her, but never thought of it as Progressive, however, I dont know much about this genre as you can see from my small list of favorites. If she is though, then I'll add her as well.

I don't care what anyone says, Queensryche have never been progressive. They may have a few tracks that are sort of progressive, like "Chemical Youth (We Are Rebellion)," "NM156," and "Screaming In Digital," but they're not a progressive band. No way.

Then you don't know prog. Their later albums are rock.

I agree with you. But hey, they're considered progressive metal for some reason, so I put them in my list.

True, which is why I didn't single anyone out. :)

Can't come up with ten prog but i'll include experimental stuff and progessive electronic stuff in there to.

Seiges Even - Art of Navigating By The Stars
Wuthering Heights - Far From The Maddening Crowd
King Crimson - In The Court of.....
Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpresible
Shpongle - Are You Shpongled?
Kimmo Pohjonen - Kluster

and there rly the only progy stuff that i have that i think are worthy of being in a list such as this

I change my list...

Dream Theater--Scenes from a Memory
Dream Theater--Images and Words
Dream Theater--Train of Thought
Dream Theater--Awake
Symphony X--The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Rush--Moving Pictures
Opeth--Ghost Reveries
Pink Floyd--Dark Side of the Moon
Queensryche--Operation: Mindcrime
Liquid Tension Experiment--Liquid Tension Experiment 2

I DO think Queensryche is prog. I remember thinking when I first listened to them that they sounded like a mix of Dream Theater and Iron Maiden. I dunno, prog enough for me...

Queensryche are not prog, surely not on Operation Mindcrime. Find me an odd time signature on that album! Haha.

Opeth aren't prog either, right? I've only ever heard Ghost Reveries (since traded out on lala.com), but I didn't think it was prog.

Uh... you have a weird definition of prog if you don't think Opeth are, since they are no matter which way you look at it.

I've only heard that one album, wasn't impressed. It could be prog, which is why I never said it wasn't. I asked.

I think Queensryche were progressive on Rage For Order. Not on Operation: Mindcrime, which people mention here, and which is melodiv heavy metal in my eyes, and not on Empire, which is basicaly hard rock. But there's lots of proggy stuff an RFO, and there is too little heavy metal there to be labeled that.

Three giant albums as far as I'm concerned, enormously influential, regardless how they're labeled.

"influenced by prog" vs "sounding prog" vs "being progressive" gets kinda confusing

Boy howdy.

Also: if prog means "write a four minute light song and a four minute heavy song and spilce them together at one minute intervals" then Opeth sure do qualify. :P

Opeth is absolutely Prog. Megadeth are not prog. Quennsryche were never prog. (Never understood that label for them). I am having a hard time with this list because of so many maybe's on genre.

What is progressive about Rage For Order? It's my favorite album by them, I'd never take anything away from it. I just don't hear any prog on the album. Sure, there are some odd songs, but if odd meant progressive then Beck would be prog.

I'll put it like this. My Arms, Your Hearse is def. Prog, Ghost Reveries isn't. They streamlined their sound a bit on that album.
