What is with all The Odyssey worship? It's good but it is hardly their best.
Best album Symphony X have ever put out is without a doubt Divine Wings Of Tragedy. It's got all the key elements that make SX so great, all in one album. V is a close second, my fav. SX songs are on V but it also has some fillers, otherwise it would have been a killer album.

I don't get the odyssey worship either

What are filler songs in your opinion? I think Absence of Light is the only one that could to some extent be considered a filler.

Evolution - great
Fallen - great
Communion And The Oracle - great
The Bird-Serpent War/Cataclysm - good
On The Breath Of Poseidon - average
Egypt - average (it's weak in comparison with the song "Pharaoh")
Death Of Balance - good
Absence Of Light - average
A Fool's Paradise - good
Rediscovery Pt. 2 - great

This is the only album where SX experimented with so many interludes and instrumentals and honestly I don't think it worked that well.

I agree with that list, except I think Egypt should have the label great. Although it's mellow, it's just so athmospheric, and that guitar solo in it is godlike. Best solo ever man.

And I agree there is too much instrumental and orchestral stuff, and too many interludes. Leaves you a bit bored.

I don't understand all the V worship. It has it's moments, but for the most part it's boring.

Bah, you know nothing about metal. Go listen to some Cellador you poser.

On a serious note, V is hard to get into. I've read a lot of negative comments based on what I told Scion about the interludes and the instumentals. I guess some people are just put off by that sort of thing. I'd suggest you relisten Divine Wings again.

I agree with metalNess. I find V to be fairly boring. It is quality music but not very interesting. Fallen is a great song and there are some others on that album that are great too, but Odyssey is a better written and performed album. There is just much more feeling. I listen to primarily technical music, but i have a hard time getting into V.

Err, dude. What about Egypt, RediscoveryII and the almost painfully passionate and beautiful Communion and the Oracle?

Egypt - horrible song

RediscoveryII - Decent

Communion and the Oracle - Awesome, but the 2nd one is better.

The best SX album is easily "The divine wings of tragedy" according to me followed by The new mythology and Twilight in Olympus. I like The odyssey but, it´s not that over-whelming for me.

I don't even have the Odyssey on my harddrive as MP3's, I just don't see the appeal with it. Symphony-X has a way of following the same path as Dream Theater, onfortunally also when it came to "Train of Thoughts". Oh... well, I still have Shadow Gallery.

I don't understand the "Odyssey" worship either. In fact, I'm really surprised that so many have voted for it over "Divine Wings of Tragedy", which I think, is really hard to argue against as being their best (well you can argue it, but can you really come up with that many knocks against 'DWoT'?). Yes, I like "V" a little more, but I can certainly understand why many people are not into that one.

But "Odyssey"? Meh. "Odyssey" tries to be as good as 'DWoT" and fails miserably.

It was hard for me to decide between Odyssey and DWoT, but I feel DWoT is an overall stronger set of songs.

V is a close third to those two, followed by The Damnation Game, then Twilight in Olympus. Never heard the s/t as I've been very cautious of hearing Symphony X's first vocalist.

Looking forward to the new album. One of my three cant wait for albums along with Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden.
