Hammerfall I dig ok, you will like if you like a mix of Dokken and Aceppt. Anyways all of their albums are decent but the 1st 2 are the best, the newest one is pretty good also.

Should leee have his metal license revoked? I've heard very little of this band, but never have I heard Dokken and Accept. Is this accurate?

For Hammerfal go with Glory To The Brave and Legacy Of Kings, for other PM bands check out, Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction and Virgin Steele - Invictus, Power Metal doesnt get better than this, im hoping that you've already heard Metal Church, if not go with their self titled, the Dark or Blessing In Disguise.

These threads become too much for people. Everyone tries to outdo the other person by suggesting bands they think are better than the bands the other person suggested.

The key is to link songs and MP3s. People will be far more inclined to check a band out if they can just click a link in the thread rather than going to Google, typing in the band name, hitting Search, finding the band's website, going to the website, then trying to find music to listen to.

Yeah true. I listened to like three power metal bands (Helloween, Sonata Arctica, Strato) and went from there. I explored the genre without anybody's help. I think once you get past the bigger bands you’ll find where you sit better. Then you can say, “I liked so and so, I want more bands like them.”

Well I guess I should of mentioned that I already do own and listen to some power metal already!

The power metal albums I own:
Manowar - Battle Hymn, Into Glory Rise, Fighting the World, Kings of Metal, Hail to England, Warriors of the World, and State of Triumph.

Iced Earth - Iced Earth, Night of the Stormrider, Burnt Offerings, The Dark Saga, Horror Show, Tribute to the Gods (Horrid!), The Reckoning EP, and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

PainmuseuM - Metal For Life (PainmuseuM).

Yeah so thats it. I do have some Blind Guardian downloaded, and I am very ashamed that no one mentioned Grave Digger! What gives!?! All you guys were thinking I was a power metal noob, but I am not one exactly.

As for MetalNESS's comment about how many I have checked out, I am not going until Friday morning so I havn't really checked out any of them. And as for the Angel Dust comments, they rock even in the Thrash category!

I forgot to mention that I did own and listen to lots of Helloween. But one day I traded all of my albums. Now I own none and am very sad about it. but I did own:

Keeper of the Seven Keys Parts 1 and 2 (liked the first one better), The Time of the Oath, and Master of the Rings. My friend owns the new one and I like to.

NEVER sell you albums unless you flat out despise it! When I joined the Air Force I found myself quickly running out of space in dorm rooms, so I sold a lot of my collection, stuff I hadn't listened to in a while and figured I wouldn't miss. Sure enough, at some point I wanted to listen to those CDs and had to re-buy them. I mean, I just recently finished re-buying my Souls At Zero CDs that I sould around 1997 or so. I should have just packed them away, not sold them.

I lent Dead Heart In A Dead World by Nevermore to my pal months ago, and I still haven't gotten it back! ARGH!

The only album I kind of regret selling is Sepultura - Roots.

And can someone please say what worth Hammerfall have, above and beyond being complete Manowar rip-offs?

I don't think musically that they are very close to Manowar, they are more influenced by Accept I would say, although im far from an expert. They have worth in that they can write catchy songs about warriors and battles, thats about it. The concept works but it gets tedious to listen to a whole album by them. Dream Evil does it better imo, they've got more punch.

If you do want to check out some HF albums, try Legacy of Kings or their debut.

 i don't see that much Manowar-elements to consider them a rip-off. Almost every power metal band that sounds like hammerfall, if we follow your way of thinking, is a Manowar rip-off. I have nothing against Manowar, au contraire, but i'd prefer Hammerfall above it. Simply because Manowar has less variation in their music, and because they are 20 times more laughable.

Sign Of The Hammer? Glory To The Brave? Come on, it's written all over them!

It's power metal, douchebag, what did you expect? Dark gloomy titles? Album themes not about war, knights, fairies, elves and the 'glory of battle'?

That's how it struck me. Maybe I'm not enough of a PM-phag yet...

There is definetly a Manowar vibe to Hmmerfall in feel and in lyrics. As for the music itself, its not so obvious. Im sure there are some things that are influenced or similar, but Hammerfall have a Euro-feel that manowar never had. I also dont really find Manowar any more or less laughable then a band like Hammerfall. I have listened to both bands alot over the years and Hammerfall cant touch Manowar. Manowar is American Heavy Metal with Euro-Power themes. Manowar was around before all the Euro Bands though. Therefore, maybe it can be said that Hammerfall thematically ripped off Manowar. More in an homage way than a negative way though.

I don't think they sound too much like Manowar, more like a best of 80's trad/commercial Heavy Metal. Not hair metal though. I think they got all the shit from Accept, Warlock, etc. but their shout out Chourses are pure 80's metal, especailly like Dokken Tooth and Nail and that All we Are album from Warlock.

They mix a lot of shit though, some songs are just pure speed and have that Helloween vibe, but damn sure half the album are very commercial 80's shit.

If you buy or download anything from them def get the first one because it is best, if you don't like that you will hate the rest. I like the new one Chapter V a lot actually. I like that kind of commercial sing along shit though as gay as it is.

And whoever said Dream Evil does it better, yeah, I totally agree. I think their is another similiar band called Mob Rules but I haven't heard them.

Also Firewind is better at this shit then Hammerfall too. Gus G all over the place.
