Ha, if you had joined the band, I would have seen you live twice at this point... I don't think you could top Howard though.. He does some crazy shit live (last time, he got down from the stage and kissed the security guard on the lips).

I actually had an appointment to try out (they didn't have open auditions, a friend knows the band and got me the hook up), but I was still in the Air Force at the time, getting out in a few months, and my leave was cancelled due to a death in the family for another guy in the office. His leave then trumped mine. I was pissed. I'm not gonna compare myself to Howard, I sound nothing like him, but I think my screams are more metal and my singing voice is quite good (I think anyway).

Hmm, I had no idea you were a singer. Have you been in any bands (or at least any bands that released at least a demo)? Or was this just a one shot thing where you woke up one day and were like: "I'd like to apply for KSE?"

I've been in a lot of bands, but none very serious because I was always in the Air Force when I was a singer. Before the Air Force I was mainly a guitarist, though I did sing for a few bands that just never went anywhere. I've been looking for the right band for a while now. It's been too long since I've done anything musical.

On the subject of strange covers, I heard Dillinger Escape Plan is coming out with a cover EP that includes:

Soundgarden's "Jesus Christ Pose"
Massive Attack's "Angel"
NIN's "Wish"

and...and...get ready for it

"Like I Love You" by Justin Timberlake

Seriously, didn't these fuckers learn anything from Children of Bodom?

I heard "Angel" on the radio, and they've kept it electronica-ly.

Got any tracks you could send wherein I could listen to your singing?

Um...I'm at work now, but let me see what I can dig up. Most of what I have readily available right now is just demo shit. Not much effort put in, you know? Just bedroom recordings. Let me check, though...

EDIT: OK, here are two things I have out on my FTP site. I've posted these before here. One is a cover of an old System Of A Down song from their 1995 demo. The vocals have a flange effect on them and the song is very simple, but I've always thought it was cool. Probably not what you're looking for, though. The second is a track called "Kingdom." I kind of lost interest in this song and never finished it. A while back, though, I found another version where I had some cool layered vocal parts after where it fades in this version. I don't remember recording those parts so it was cool hearing it. It made me want to finish the song. Anyway, the cover is pretty good quality, the clip is a rough demo, not to be taken as a definitive example of my vocal ability, but the screams are cool. Hehe.

EYESORE ALL ZIPPED UP!

I just got that CD with that cover on it in the mail and there are some surprisingly good covers on it!

Fall Out Boy doing a decent cover of the Gorilla Biscuit classic "Start Today." Whoa?!?! The Killswitch cover. Biffy Clyro (who?) does a really cool mathcore version of Weezer's "Buddy Holly." Still Remains do a great cover of "Head Like A Hole" by NIN. Deftones do a great cover of Skynyrd's "Simple Man" (may have been on their b-sides release, I don't know).

There are only a few bad songs: Arch Enemy's dreadful cover Megadeth's "Symphony Of Destruction," Bullet For My Valentine covering "Crazy Train" (horrible), Dillinger Escape Plan's cover of Soundgarden's "Jesus Christ Pose" (great music, horrible, emo-whiny vocals).

Not a bad CD for £1.99 (like $3 USD) with a magazine.

Yeah, its a bit shitty. Only Mustaine works on Megadeth songs, everyone! Realise this soon! Heard AE's cover of Kill With Power? Its really good!

My brain is crying at the very concept. :(

They do a cool version of that Weezer song, though. Not really my thing, but a respectable cover.

Heard the Nightwish version? It's just as bad.

Yeah, this singer has NO range. WTF? They covered that Metallica song before and it was just as bad, this band sucks.

Finally listened to those tracks you uploaded Eyesore. Not my type of music, but your voice can be pretty damn cool.

Yeah, what did I upload? The System cover and that groovy song, right? I like the chorus of that one, the "come alive" part. I think I have a pretty cool voice, I just wish I had a way to utilize it. I don't like wasting my time with turds, and 90% of musicians are turds. Seriously. I drove an hour and fifteen minutes on time to the NH border to jam with this band that was looking for a second singer. About 45 minutes into me watching them churn out the equivalent of an audio-holocaust, the singer starts talking to me. Here's how the conversation went:

Singer: [yadda-yadda], so...can you harmonize with people?
Me: Yeah, of course.
Singer: That's cool. Man, I can't harmonize at all.

WHAT THE FUCK? I was there to sing WITH HIM!  Total waste of time. Their drummer also was supposedly this Dream Theater drummer, had toured Europe with death metal bands, yet he couldn't keep time and his fills where so ridiculously off-time it was hilarious. I also brought a friend with me who played bass, this dude is a badass. They needed a bass player, too. For some reason my friend was having issues following this one song they were doing, no big deal. In between songs he was playing shit like "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver." Anyway, the next day I get an e-mail from the guitarist telling me he thought I was cool and a good fit, but my friend was a no-go. The reason: He couldn't play good enough.

It was such a waste of time. That was the last time I really tried out for a band. It was like 2 years ago. It's very hard to take something serious only to have other people pretend like they do, you know?

[/END RANT]
