I agree on Empire. That album is just too commercial and slick for me, overall. That being said, "Anybody Listening" is easily one of my favorite songs the band ever did.

But if you listen to that song, or "Silent Lucidity", you can make a bit of a connection to the direction they went with Promised Land. I don't think that was a cash in album at all, it was very dark and brooding and different for them (although weren't albums like Rage For Order also dark and brooding, albeit in a different way?). Yeah, I can see where the comments about their changing their sound or them sounding a little, or sometimes more than a little, like Pink Floyd are coming from, sure. But the heaps of criticism that album seems to get is awfully excessive, imo.

Since Qeensryche is being discussed here........ just picked up OMC II and listened to almost the entire cd, but had to turn it off cos I had to rush to work. From what I've heard, it isn't that bad. It's pretty good though not good as OMC I. I loved Empire and OMC I. Haven't listened to other ryche albums though.

You should definitely check out the EP, The Warning and Rage For Order! All three could be classics.

The Whisper, Nueue Regel, London, Chemical Youth, Screaming In Digital, Roads To Madness, Before The Storm...fuck it, everything!

The Prophecy should have made the Rage For Order album. One of my favorites, the solo is killer!
