All right, so here's the deal, after a couple of listens:
The new songs are generally quite average. There are a couple of very good ones (In Effigy comes to mind) but most of them suffer from what I call Reign in Blood syndrome: Too short. Will to Rebuild is going along awesomely, awesomely, awesomely, and then it just ends. Another riff or two and the song could have been one of their best.
Most of the band is up to scratch, but Jon's solos are certainly at their lowest point since Somber Eyes to the Sky. Some cool ideas in there, but the solos seem to be there simply because they felt like they needed to include a solo. That aspect is kind of dissapointing.
Re-records: Deadworld and This Is My Own: Older versions sound better. Get those if you can.
The covers are probably the best part of the album. Teasn' Pleasn' in particular is completely fun and kickass, and Mark of the Squealer also works quite well.
In all, an all right EP, but nothing special. 68/100,.
Well, these songs were left off of the last album for a reason. Of course, being the people that wrote the songs they're going to think they're better than maybe someone outside of the band, but it sounds like a typical b-sides album to me. How is "December?" Can someone upload that song?
