And what about the production on this one?

A step up from Savage Poetry and generally quite good. Not as crisp as the albums that would follow.

How many Stratovarius and Edguy albums have you actually heard?

For Stratovarius I have Fright Night Through Elements part I. I think Visions is the best....but I definately like some songs from each of the albums....not so much the newer ones though....actually after Visions I don't really give a fuck about.

Edguy I have Theatre of Salvation. I've heard the rest though....and the new ones are the worst to me....I can't even take them seriously....Theatre of Salvation was cool when I first started listening to heavy metal...but now its just really boring.

Well, if you actually liked the two bands I would have to agree with you. New Edguy makes me puke and new Stratovarius makes me want to eat puke.

METALNESS! YOU'RE BACK! Where have you been?

And I enjoy Stratovarius. Edguy, not so much, but they have a few good songs.

Edguy dont have a bad album, not one. I think Kingdom Of Madness is just as good as VGO, TOT & TSP. While Mandrake, Hellfire Club and Rocket Ride are their best 3.

As for Stratovarius: Anything from 4th Dimension onwards (Episode, Visions, Destiny, Infinite, Intermission, Elements pt 1& 2) is very good....yes including their latest album...

For Strat, I like Visions and Infinite. For Edguy, I'm partial to Theatre of Salvation onward because as much as I consider Tobi to be one of the better vocalists around today, his early vocals weren't nearly as developed as they are now. VGO was a good album as far as the songs themselves are concerned though, and I like the modern live versions of those songs.

Thats my big problem with Edguy and Strato....everything is so fucking polished. In fact thats my big problem with Power Metal bands...everything is so clean and wimpy. Where is the grit...where the fuck is the booze soaked rockin'? Its totally gone. Instead you get Tobias Sammet wearing a cowboy hat, and designer leather pants prancing around claiming that he's a rock star. Real rock stars don't have to tell people they are one. They let their actions speak for themselves. Lemmy never said "look at me, I'm a rock star" he just did a whole lot of coke and fucked some bitches every night. Tobias(god thats a gay name) is a total wannabee.

I hate to break this to you, but metal came about as way for people to be whatever they want, which means that if someone wants to be polished, they can be. Metal is about making your own standards. Being held to stupid "tru metal" standards is no better than being held to any other standard. It's no better than pop music when taken in that way.

You do realize that the original metal from the 60s and 70s was EXTREMELY polished for its time, don't you? Ozzy wore fringed cowboy shirts in Sabbath. Guys like Halford and Bruce Dickinson pranced around on stage in cheesy leather costumes. Bruce's were just as colorful as Tobi's!

Metal is about expressing yourself by no one else's standards and NOT conforming to anything. You apparently expect bands to conform to a gritty, angry image to be called "metal". Guess what. Most of the bands who do that are faking anyway because touring the world and making a living playing an instrument is a pretty cool gig. You obviously prefer fakes who play off the image than people who just do what they want. Who's more metal, I ask?

Dude, you're right but you're wasting your e-breath trying to get a point across here.

Well put. I'll also add, I don't "listen" to metal based on what the band "looks" like. Those two words (listen, look) don't fit together in music, at least they shouldn't.

Funny how the original comment never actually mentions anything about music

I second that. Very well-put. One week I am a gay flower metaller, the next I am an evil-ass-bitch-true-KRIEG-nekro-black-metalhead and I like 'em both. So sue me.

I may have been a bit rude in my approach though. I've just been in a few discussions with young metalheads about people being "metal" recently, so I kinda blew my top

I hear that. Give me some Power Quest and then Drudkh, Insania (which is an awesome band Mindtraveller introduced me to) and then Taake.

I don't agree. You can say whatever you want but the spirit of rock and roll isnt clean and it isnt dressed up in fashionable clothse. Its in the underground where people are forging new styles or going back to the classics without rehashing the same old tired trends. Its cool to like Edguy so fine, whatever. You can have your polished heavy metal, just know that image isnt everything. If Edguy were truly a good band, their music would speak for itself...unfortunately it doesnt. It's bland and has to rely on live theatrics to get any sort of point across. I realize there is a fundamental difference in the way we all think about metal, and I agree that metal is a useful tool for individuality....but lets be honest....Edguy is not original, and the 80's rock star image they are pushing is hardly original or creative in any way. They are the next Kiss to me, money whores who engage in shameless self promotion. If you buy into their crap then whatever, you and I won't be listening to records together....and to say that the bands in the 60's and 70's were polished is total bull shit. SOme were, but bands like Sabbath and Zeppelin and Deep Purple were not, and as far as I know they are the fathers of heavy metal.

At the end of the day rock and roll, heavy metal, its music. Music is for the ears not the eyes! Its doesn't matter what the bands dress like but what they sound like. If you think power metal is too polished and 'wussy' sounding, fair comment! But to say one of your reasons for not liking a band is because of thier image is completely wrong!!! This is a music forum, not a fasion forum!! I couldn't care less what a band looks like, acts like or does in thier spare time, its what they sound like!!!! If you don't like edguys music because its bland, thats great, but image is not a real reson to not like a band.

Wait, wait, wait....so when Edguy play 80s rock-inspired power metal its rehashing old trends, but when your band plays 80s-style thrash metal its going back to the classics?

it's very clear that boh Harbinger and Edguy are in the "business" of selling nostalgia... the thing is Edguy can be considered as a sell-out act because they sell so many albums making "easy listening metal" while Harbinger plays some vintage NWOBHM thrashy heavy metal just for the love of the art...
You know how metalheads hate success when it happens to others... I'm sure David would damn himself to sell as many records as Edguy sold (he would propably give his ass too  ) but he will never admit it pretending to be the trOOer of the trOO (or a Metal Elitist or whatever he'd like to call himself) when his band just lack the (commercial) potential to be big.

@ David (H_T) : I actually think both your band and Edguy are honest in the music they make. you can like or dislike it all you wish (Edguy). just stop using the same arguments over and over again... that's tiring and if that didn't work the first and second and third (and so on..) times, that's not going to work this time either...
