I'm sure to the casual listener most Death Metal does sound the same, but the casual listener doesn't always feel compelled to talk about it.

My comments are made because, for someone supposedly trying to get into the genre, you can't seem to get past reeling out cliches such as the plagirism one. Power Metal works the same way as any genre of music; there are innovators (Helloween), and there are copyists - the trick is finding the copyists that do a good job (Hammerfall) and those that don't (Stormhammer).
