Not sure, tbh. All I know is that he was really wasting his talent with Avenged Sevenfold. It's just not where he belongs.

Methinks it was for the amount of bad publicity he was causing due to the DT situation.

Being fair to Avenged Sevenfold, that's the first praiseworthy thing they've done since those few seconds of City Of Evil that aren't fucking terrible.

Portnoy was an alcoholic anyways. People who have an alcohol problem are just a bitch to deal with anyways. I'm sure that hasn't left his personality even if he isn't drinking anymore.

I can't understand why they are dragging this out so long, Portnoy wrote that he offered to go back but was told no. It would be great to know the whole story behind the split. I haven't listened to DT in a while, but I'm still keen to know who is their new drummer instead of all the specualtion.

Hearing rumours of Mike Mangini as a replacement. No idea how true.

By the looks of his site, it looks like it is shut down for some reason because his "friend" can no longer help.

This is speculation, but it certainly looks like he himself doesn't have time to maintain his part of the duties of running the site and is looking for someone to help his friend keep it going. I say the "my friend is busy" story is nonsense and it's a cover.

I really want Aquiles Prestier in there...

Reasons it makes sense:

DT knows he exists. He played for Angra opening for DT every night.

He is straight edge like the rest DT (*yawn*)

Better than Portnoy by a country mile

Amazing Producer. One of the best self-producers in the business.

I think he used to hang out with DT, at least he hung out with Mike and the friendliness is already there.

Reasons it doesn't make sense:

He's from Brazil. There would be some obvious conflicts there I suppose and DT would kind of lose their "american prog" tag I guess.

It would draw a whole lot of attention to Steamhammer Records, Angra and European style metal in general. DT might not want their fans to know there are faster and more technical acts out there writing catchier and more marketable material. That could take the wind right out of their sails if their mainstream american music fans all of sudden found hundreds of bands doing something similar and are obviously being influenced by DT.

On second thought. That just might work. Sign someone from SPV and get the 200,000 DT fanboys out there buying it too. most of these damn bands are heavily influenced by DT and it would turn DT into legends with Rushlike sales figures and stature if power/prog metal became as popular as hair metal, or at least the bands were going gold here.

I heard Aquiles Prestier as a possibility, actually. I think he'd fit really well.

Yeah, I think I started that rumour on Blabbermouth. Who knows. I'm gonna be disappointed if it isn't him that's for damn sure.

I can't believe they haven't announced the new drummer, you would think any issues would be sorted now but instead we just keep reading speculation. I even saw Dave Weckl mentioned now that would be interesting.

Unlike DT who seem to be playing it low key and not giving much away, MP seems to be steaming ahead with other projects and always keeping his fans informed.

This says they will announce drummer soon but was posted back in January.

Maybe March 4th could finally be the day or probably just more tour dates.
