The video's alright, but I never really get why Kamelot are an amaaaazing band as opposed to just meh. A couple of catchy choons here and there aside, what's so special?

Well, The Black Halo and Epica definitely have more to offer than most other power metal acts. Not that I even listen to those albums anymore, but they definitely do.

Me either my friend. One of the most overrated bands/vocalists on the planet. Some of their stuff can be pretty damn amazing, but they accompany that amazing with too much filler.

Bad news for the NA's who planned on seeing them on the upcoming tour. Khan is severely ill and won't come along. BUT, Michael from Circus Maximus will replace him. Not too bad.

I think I'd prefer that actually.

It's about a million times better than the generic " we're a bunch of scary guys in a dark room with flashing lights. Rawr. " music video.

This album should be badass.

While you guys are arguing about what makes Kamelot so special... It's that their music goes a bit more beyond what I'd consider to be boring ass power metal, and Roy Kahn has a great voice and that's not annoying like most of the other power metal guys. At least in my opinion.

I don't really see how they're all that generic, either. Maybe with Epica and previous albums, but lately they've got a little bit of a personal touch that separates them from the rest of the power metal crop.

As a guy that hates power metal for the most part, I like them a lot, so they're doing something right obviously. :dio:

I like Kamelot because rather than sounding like a power metal band their albums are more like musicals with electric guitar and double bass kick.

This. Seems like Kamelot is most loved by people who are not huge on power metal. Personally I think they sound pretty much just like many other power metal bands and Khan is nothing special, though solid for sure. Also that new song is lame.

I think Kamelot does a far better job constructing an atmosphere on an album and with their presentation than most power metal bands. Their last few albums really have the concept thing down rather well in my opinion. Plus the music and vocals are top notch.

Excuse me but I'm a fan of power metal(my favorite style of metal)and I love Kamelot.

As TED has stated over and over in this thread, Kamelot goes beyond your typical power metal style and created their own blend of PM.

To appreciate Kamelot you have to really get into their blend of music. It's like Edgar Allen Poe, to appreciate Poe you have to really get into his writings same way with Kamelot. They are like complex poets themselves.

I shouldn't watch those videos of metal bands. Although the song may be great, I always end up laughing at the band. This vid was no exception. The song was alright though. I generally don't like power metal but I should listen to Kamelot more often. They sound like something I could dig.

I said it SEEMS like, I didn't say it was the only people who like them. Just about every Kamelot fan I've run into hates most other power metal. I have no problem with people liking Kamelot, my issue is with the claims that Kamelot is this amazing band that is so good it goes beyond the genre entirely as the number one band or one of the number one bands. All I'm saying is that I don't hear it, they sound like other power metal bands to me. It's really not a bad thing to sound like a power metal band IMO either, just if you don't like how power metal bands sound I'm lost on how Kamelot sounds good.

It's better than Ghost Opera. Still need to get into it.

I think many people like Kamelot because they transmit a certain genuine emotion through their music. I definitely feel it, in fact I always say they remind me of old Queensryche from this point of view. And just like Tate, Kahn has a big merit in this.

But in the last 2 albums, this emotional side started to feel forced, the songwriting became less inspired and the riffs are either boring or missing. A few great vocal melodies here and there isn't enough to save them.

I disagree with that statement. There's still plenty of emotions left in them, and even though they won't top The Black Halo, this is still great. Take them for what they are, and lower your expectations a bit, this will turn out fine.

me too

Me four!

Especially Epica and The Black Halo - those albums aren't about individual songs.

That said, I'm expecting this one to be a bit disappointing - Ghost Opera was good, but a step down. It was also exactly what I expected it to be. I hope I'm not as good at predicting Kamelot's musical direction as I think I am. I'll wait til I buy it before I say anymore.

It's not disappointing at all. I think it's a great album. It's maybe a bit by the numbers at this point ( They've kinda had the same thing going since Black Halo ) but that's definitely not something to complain about.

I think it's more consistent than Ghost Opera for sure. I like pretty much all the tracks and there's not too many slow ballads I have to skip.

Would rate it an 80. Ghost Opera a 75, and Black Halo a 90.

And I'm from the side of the river that would say a 75 is a good rating, I definitely love Ghost Opera it's just not all that consistent.
