A second listen later and I don't dislike it that much, but it's still average. I still hope the rest of the album is better.

I think everyone here has kind of unrealistic expectations when a Maiden album comes out, like you think they're suddenly going to put out an album as good as the 80s material. Time has proven they won't.

With that in mind, I think this song rocks nice n' hard. I don't see anything wrong with it. And as for Bruce....does he sound kind of like Ian Gillan here, or is it just me? I love Ian Gillan, btw.

El Dorado is pretty good, after a few listens. Hopefully not the best song on the album.
The chorus and solo are the best parts

I think most people here don't expect something like their 80s material, but still want a solid album from these guys. The expectations for a good album are definitely high because it's Maiden. Even if it is as good as AMOLAD, I'll be happy.

I was sold the instant i heard Harris galloping in on the bass. Really good song, though I agree that Bruce's voice isn't very impressive...

I've been listening to El Dorado 4 times now.
On first listen, I thought it was pretty bad though I was glad it was "different" from what Iron Maiden usually delivers.
Now, I think it's a good song with one of the best choruses Iron Maiden had composed in years. It's still not up to their past grandeur but I think it's their best single since Wicker Man which is something I wasn't expecting.
Looking forward to the album! :dio:

Agreed. We'll never get anything like they've released between 1980 & 1988. Deal with it, people.
And I can see why you're thinking of Ian Gillan with Bruce's vocals, especially in the chorus, but I still think he sound like Bruce and nobody else.

Okay, this is nowhere near brilliant. And I'm feeling a little disappointed to be honest. The vocals sounds a bit dry, though not so much on the chorus. Gotta give it a couple of more listens. I like the production otherwise.

The more you listen to El Dorado, the better it gets.
The chorus is good, the riffing ain't too bad and, all in all, this is a fine demonstration of what Iron Maiden is capable in 2010 when they don't go in the 10 minutes boring pseudo-progressive metal.
Not spectacular in any way but a pretty good tune.

Boring and uninspired song. Hopefully the rest will be different.

I liked El Dorado but after repeated listenings the rest of the album is nowhere near as good. It's ok but not spectacular.

Basically it's A Matter of Life and Death Pt II.

That statement couldnt be any further from the truth. TFF is nothing like AMOLAD. It's more a combo of DOD and BNW than anything else. I think it actually stands on its own...

I think it lacks the majestic grandness of Dance of Death. And interestingly I hear more X Factor in it than Brave New World.

I do like the album just like I like A Matter of Life and Death.

But Dance of Death is the best Iron Maiden album of the last 15 odd years and A Matter of Life and Death and The Final Frontier don't come close to matching it.

Fair enough...

I just think that DOD has a few more average/dull tracks than both BNW and TFF. Songs like "Montségur", "Gates of Tomorrow", "Age of Innocence" and "Wildest Dreams" really do nothing for me. AMOLAD have even more average tracks.

I do agree that I hear a pinch of The X Factor in the new album, and thats a good thing considering that I enjoyed that album

I really like Monsegur. Though the other ones are more average.

Of the new batch of albums, BNW was probably the most consistent in terms of song quaility but it lacks the few massive standout epics .

Last Iron Maiden album that was solid through and through was probably Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son which pretty much didn't have filler (IMO).

Good to think it's not only me hearing the X-Factor influence!

I agree :)

I feel it's the best album they've made since 2000 with Brave New World and A Matter of Life and Death almost tied for 2nd place, imo.
