I have Passion and Warfare which I didn't really like. Vai may be an amazing guitarist but is nowhere near as good as Yngwie as a songwriter. He's definitely more listenable than Satriani though.

Petrucci's solo album is more like the kind of stuff I wana hear from a guitarist.

You really think so?? I totally disagree.

Yngwie's early stuf seems so sculpted, you know? Like very note is there on purpose. I don't get that feeling with Vai. Besides, Yngwie can writer great Hard Rock/Metal anthems in the vein of deep purple and rainbow that usually exceed his influences.

Well, Vai's not about anthemic stuff, but I find his song structures so much more interesting.

Plus I'll be getting a vai evo guitar this xmas. yay!

I have to hear Sex and Religion. I have Passion and Warfare. It's pretty damn awesome, but I can't listen to too many instrumental albums, as they start to bore me after a while. But stuff like For The Love of God is just sick, even my grandfather likes it.

I've been a Vai fan ever since I heard "Little Green Men". His technical abilities are by far superior to just about any guitarist on the planet. I enjoy him because he's not afraid to experiment with different styles, tones, and approaches to music. He's incredibly gifted to say the very least. I would describe a lot of what he's done as having metal overtones however, his writing is just so diverse that I wouldn't attempt to stereotype him in any way.

He's been a major influence on my playing for the past 20 years.

Technically, Michael Angelo Batio is superior.

I've never had the opportunity to hear Mr. Batio's work. I'll reserve judgment or comment until I do. :)
