Cool song. This album promises a lot. Btw, here's from someone who has heard the whole thing:

Quote:
Metal Edge (web site) contributor Bryan Reesman (web site) was the first American journalist to fully hear the new JUDAS PRIEST rock opera "Nostradamus" and interview Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, and K.K. Downing about it this past Tuesday. The interview will run as the July 2008 cover story of Metal Edge, which streets June 3.

Of the album, Reesman says, "Some fans have expressed concern to me about this album being potentially 'Spinal Tap', but they have nothing to fear. The current free download (the title track) delivers a ferocious song that will certainly remind PRIEST fans of 'Painkiller', but the whole album goes far deeper. Over the course of 104 minutes, they deliver everything from emotional ballads to heavy anthems to orchestral interludes that are quite impressive in their musical and emotional scope. 'Angel of Retribution' was a good but safe comeback album. 'Nostradamus' takes PRIEST to another level. They're exploring many areas we've never heard from them. The main songs, which are all between four and eight minutes apiece, have classical or operatic overtones but are still heavy. They use live strings, piano, acoustic and Spanish guitar, and keyboards in different places. Rob even sings in Italian during 'Plague and Pestilence'. Instead of focusing on Nostradamus' prophecies, which have been debated ad nauseum, he tackles the dramas and tragedies within his life. Even though the individual songs are strong, PRIEST aren't going for hit singles here. It's powerful conceptual metal all the way. Rob's voice sounds great and his vocals the most diverse since 'Stained Class', and Glenn and Ken's guitar playing is stellar. Beyond the tours this year, they're hoping to stage the album on a grander scale next year at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall or the Royal Albert Hall."

Double album and Priest? I think I just soiled myself. ( Yes I just heard about this now, haven't been paying attention to the ol' Priest in awhile )

I can't wait for it. I was extremely thrilled with Angel of Retribution.

"Visions" is a boring song. It's good, but there's really no substance there at all. Maybe that's the radio hit?

There's a 9 song (others than Visions and Nostradamus) demo loose on the Internet. Shitty sound and beeps in it. But I couldn't resist, I had to give it a go. I think I can safely say this album will be right up there with SWOD, DOTF and Painkiller. At least a major one every decade, right? Nostradamus nails this one.

Thats awesome to hear. I think I'm going to hold out for the album to come out, but thanks for biting the bullet for us.

I wouldn't get too excited. The sampler has some very good songs, but this is a new era of Judas Priest. It's a very different sound, if you ask me.

Why haven't I checked out the sample yet? Will pick this up, might as well make it my proper starting point for Priest, British Steel was a bit of a false start for me. But considering it's a little different compared to most Priest...

Get excited Brahm! Different sound, true, but Priest always reinvented themselves, so no surprises there. Nostradamus appears to be unlike anything they ever did. The songwriting is less exuberant, more controlled. It's not very aggressive, but it's heavy and atmospheric, has a very grandiose vibe. It has great hooks and melodies, godly solos and Halford is in great shape, even if he doesn't appear to soar too much. There are bits of slow crushing doom, beautiful acoustics, epic parts, symphonic parts and it all comes together nicely. This album really seems to have a lot to offer. There's no filler so far, even the interludes kicked my ass big time. I can't wait for the whole thing. I now realise I basicaly heard half the album, there's no way the other half will disappoint. No way I say!

It is a dumbed-down Priest indeed! And that's what makes it so fun and enjoyable! :P

'Visions' actually has restored my faith that they are still capable of writing a simple, effective and enjoyable song. That's a staple of their catalog.

I really think this album is going to be a grower. I like the concept idea and the fact that Priest is willing to try something different at this stage in their career. Now they can be classifed in a category that bands like Savatage or Virgin Steel are in...Theatrical Metal! :dio:

Okay, so thanks to Old School, I'm very very very excited again. I'll be buying it while in Vancouver and then I get to spend my flight home listening to it at least three times. Should be awesome.

And I agree with Mintrude- British Steel is a pretty average album. It can be fun, and has some really good songs on it (Steeeeeler) but tis so boring. Still... breaking the law, breaking the law.

British Steel is a little 'bleh.' Nearly everyone seems to agree on that these days.

Anyroads, the two new songs Priest played when I saw them other night were pretty cool, though quite similar to each other. As OldSchool says, midtempo and atmospheric. Pretty good.

Though I'm finally ready to admit Halford is past his best as a live vocalist. Painkiller was not so good.
