Does anyone have opinions on this Dan Swano project? I only have "Sbrodj", which is like a live album... But it's really, really awesome. Very experimental, wandering prog-metal with many raucous Free Jazz saxophone breaks.

That is the only Karaboudjan album. It's very weird, but also very, very good. I have an extra copy I'm planning on giving away in a contest here.

If you like this album try Pan.Thy.Monium, it's even weirder, but with vocals! Excellent stuff. There's nothing like wacky death metal that busts out with a saxophone solo. Hahaha.

If you like this album try Pan.Thy.Monium, it's even weirder, but with vocals! Excellent stuff. There's nothing like wacky death metal that busts out with a saxophone solo. Hahaha.

well, it takes a very experimental sound to impress or surprise me nowadays... I'd have to admit it... and I wasn't too impressed/surprised by Karaboudjan's sound... but then, maybe it's just me... after all I find the last Ulver to be kind of metal and quite easy listening... :roll:

This is waaay more experimental than the last Ulver, though... But tell, Stefan, what does surprise you nowadays?

There is a large chunk of free jazz there though... The saxophone chorus section is pretty striking, no?

yes but Ornette Coleman (just an example) goes so much higher/stronger into the free spirit of jazz (also known as how much can you annihilate melody and still do music)...

and, frankly, Karaboudjan sounded as easy as the last Ulver to me but it seems everything with a decent production (aka not the grimest BM) is easy listening to me... :roll:

Yes, but if they explored FJ as deeply as Ornette then this thread wouldn't belong on this board!

Ooh that'd be awesome... Had a quicklook on metal archives but there's very little info on them there. Certainly no audio clips.

OK, here is a zipped file on Megaupload. There are four songs. The untitled track is from Dawn Of Dreams, no songs had titles. "Under Ytan" and "Lava" are from Khaooohs. "Lava" is fucking weird, there's all kind of wacky shit going on. I'd post some from Khaooohs And Kon-Fus-Ion but the shortest tracks is just some weird, soothing noisescape, another track is a minute of silence and the other two are over 10 minutes long.

Anyway, definitely not for everyone, I have to be in an odd mood to listen to this band, but they're pretty kick ass.
