They definately play a larger role then they are given credit for. Cloven Hoof too gets over looked often....in fact a lot of the german bands sound like a combination of Satan and Cloven Hoof, especially the big german bands like Running Wild Rage and Grave Digger.

And radical cut....you downloaded one song....you need to get the whole album...seems like you're making a gernalization based on one song. I recommend you get the whole thing, its truly an amazing album.

I got ahold of Trial By Fire, since you guys are fanatical over here, but it really seems like you guys are overstating the band's music and influence. They are on the meaner side of NWOBHM, but not so far removed from what was around at the time as to be considered solely responsible for Thrash and Power Metal. They were just an inevitable link in the chain of metal's evolution. And there were a lot more cogs in the machine than just Satan's debut album back then, Holy Terror of all people should know this well.

I don't think anybody here has said that they're solely responsible for thrash and power metal. However, they certainly were one of the bands that helped found them.

set the standard for power metal in the 80's as every cliche exploited by bands from Metallica to Helloween are featured here in their naive original form, before they got watered down to no end by the aforementioned bands.

That's sounds pretty damn close to me.

Naturally, and I plan on getting the rest. But I'm guessing the sound in general isn't going to radically change into a full on thrash metal assault on the rest of the album. Still, I'm not going to vehemently deny that you guys have a point with all this or anything like that.

I would describe them as very guitar intricate NWOBHM...bordering power metal. But a lot of the stuff you hear on that album is what pretty much defines the Eurometal movements that came a little later.

I know Helloween was formed about a year later, but I've personally heard from people like Kai Hansen and Gary Holt that they pretty much wanted to model their sound off of Satan....Kai Hansen maybe wanted a little more Judas Priest in there than others, but there is a definite tendency for Satan worship...ha ha...in most of the 80's euro metal bands.
