Don't overlook the first Vision Divine album. That album is a dark horse masterpiece and is very similar to RTHD.
The only VD album I've heard all the way through is Stream of Consciousness and I love it. I should check out some of their earlier stuff. The few songs I heard from their newer albums were kinda lame, IMO.
The Perfect Machine is my 3rd fav album ever mostly because of the concept of the album, Michele's voice and Olaf and Oleg's always incredible songwriting. But if you didn't like that, I get it. It isn't their typical neo-classical sound at all now that I think about it. I can see why people didn't like their last two, but I hold them both in high esteem, 9 degrees though has some mediocrity at the end of the album and some songs that just don't sound very typical of the band.
The consensus does not seem to share my opinion on the first album, but I really love most of the songs on the first one. It may take some getting used to and an unhealthy love of Olaf and Fabio's sense of melody too. Far better than Athena's A New Religion though.
Knock yourself out. The first two records are out of print except in China and Korea I believe, so I wouldn't hesitate to download those.
I think the dissonance here is that I am a huge fan of pop music which has influenced both bands songwriting.
