It's not against guitar solos specifically but it's more about how when there's a guitar solo there's one instrument that's definitely taking center stage while if they're just writing awesome riffs and songs then the attention is more even between the instruments which I think makes for cool interactions between guitar/bass/drums.

Maybe it needs a cool acronym like IDM. Riff centered instrumental prog metal = RCIPM. oh yeah
