Wow. I went to Vegas this weekend because my girlfriends brother was getting married. While walking around the various motels, I stumble across the House of Blues. I figured it to be related someway to the one I have read about from Chicago that i have read about from these various metal websites. Turns out it is. I read over who is in town that weekend and wow nightwish is playing on Sat the 24th with Sonic Syndicate opening act. Sonic Sydicate was ok for those into proggy/tech Death metal if that is what it was, but wow Nightwish Was outstanding. They were extrememly professional and for the most part it sounded exactly like a louder version (amped up!) of the new album. I had a blast

Also, if anyone gets out there to vegas be sure to got that Tournament of Kings dinner show that is held at the Excalibur hotel. It is outstanding. I thought it might be corner becasue I had been to the Dixie Stampede and it was merely so so, but it really blew me away.

I also got to see Carrottop while we were there and he was still really funny.

When this trip was planned I was like ugh do i have to go, but wow I am so glad I did. I do not Gamble so the obvious vegas draw was not a stimulus for me, but wow there is really alot of other cool things to do.

Apparantly it was Nightwish first time ever in Las Vegas.
I had a wonderful weekend for sure :)

I can go in more detail if anyone needs about the show. I was just blown away that they were even there and I had the luck to witness it. I live in Tennessee and Euro-metal just does not creep by us in anyway.

I've been to Vegas, of course I was 14 at the time. Anyway, sounds like fun.

plus one,

i saw Nightwish in 2004 and tarja almost ripped the roof down that night , a few months ago Nightwish toured here again and i gave that a wide berth.

Sonic Syndicate is pure metalcore... and totally a bore. I like metalcore when it's well executed and this isn't. They have breakdowns all over the place and nothing interesting on the guitar side. the vocalists are fine but who the hell needs two screamers to go with clean vocals ?

As for Nightwish, the newer material was well rendered but old songs "Dead to the World" (not even that old but too operatic for Anette) and "Wishmaster" where totally butchered. I"ve seen Nightwish twice before and they were much better then. I guess if you haven't seen them before you've got nothing to compare to so you won't complain, but for those of us who have it's a whole different experience. It's a good thing the show I saw had Iced Earth right before, they totally stole the show, Barlow was fantastic!

Missed them the first time around when they played here. Hopefully I can see them in September.

I can't agree more with that statement.

Yeah. you guys are correct on the older material she was a bit too soft for the amped up guitars, but the new material was spot on. I have seen some videos of tarja doing the older stuff and she has more power, but like I said im from Tn and good music does not come around this area. Not even close.

Well, they're not bad with Annette. Not bad. But they played exactly two songs in total from the first four albums.

I dunno if I'd say Sonic Syndicate is pure metalcore...

That aside I enjoy them a bit. Not a huge fan but I have both of their CD's.
