Someone brought this up on another forum. Do you think Paul O'Neill owns the rights to the Savatage name? Some other people think he does, which would explain why Savatage has basically been put on indefinite hold.

I suppose that is possible, though I've never heard of it. I'd be pretty pissed if that was the reason.

It seems logical. With O'Neill being so involved with TSO, he might not be allowing Savatage to move on without him. He might have bought the rights from Jon, or the label, or maybe no one ever owned the rights to the name so he just bought it himself. Who knows. But it makes sense.

Still, it's just a name, and everyone associated with Savatage is doing some kick ass music, so I can't complain.

Yeah, It sounds probable. Paul always was apart of the writing since HoTMK and he seemed pretty picky when it came to some songs, like not liking songs that sound like She's In Love and The Unholy on Gutter Ballet. Its possible he wants it done with him and his way.

As much as I would love another Savatage record, I am perfectly content with Jon Oliva's Pain, which is basically a more stripped down, raw version of the band.

Well, they're more like a modern version of early Savatage; less bombastic than the latter day stuff.

Either way, Jon says JOP is Savatage. That also lends credence to the notion that Jon doesn't own the rights to the name. I mean, if JOB is Savatage, why not just use the Savatage name? As sad as it is, they'd get more recognition.
