I'd probably add

Communic
Wizard
Diablo (if you don't mind semi-growly vocals)

I don't think he's gonna like them, because of this comment:

Great band though.

Wow, there's a bunch there I simply am not familiar with. (Most of 'em.) Of the those ones in that pared down bunch up there, whatdya think are the top 5 to immediately go investigate? (I'll add I'm not so much a harsh vocals or thrash fan -- more of a fan of power and true metal.)

Well, this is strictly my own personal preference, but I would go in this order for non-thrash on that list:

1. Satan
2. Cirith Ungol
3. Cloven Hoof
4. Twisted Tower Dire
5. Slough Feg (previously known as The Lord Weird Slough Feg)

Yeah that would be a really good top 5 if youre looking for a more NWOBHM sound but i would also add Aria too theyre basically the russian Iron Maiden.

I've been on a Gamma Ray tear lately, so I would highly recommend Somewhere Out in Space. Man this band rules. I can't get sick of anything up til Power Plant. After that I get a bad taste in my mouth.

By the way, Adam, you're list is quite possibly the best musical recommendations I have seen on this board. Flawless. Can't really go wrong with any of those bands. If the dude wants a more power metal laced Cloven hoof, then he should get a Sultan's Ransom. All of the Cirith Ungol stuff is excellent....all of it, except may Paradise Lost which is still damn good. Slough Feg is a great band as well. And of course, Satan is my all time favorite heavy metal band along side early Nocturnal Rites. This guy is going to be busy. Its hard to tell which one of these band's albums will dominate his Cd player, my vote goes for the Satan. Unfortunately, if he is affected by it the same way I was, then it will ruin a lot of other bands for him.

Haha, I would agree, if he can find it! Maybe it's easier to find mp3's, but it took me a good couple months of constant searching to find Court in the Act for $22, which is still a little more than I usually spend. In the end, it's worth it though, amazing album. You'd think some label would have the good sense and decency to reissue it.

Gee, somehow missed the one with Nevermore... The chances of him liking Communic sure got a lot smaller. Though they do have a cool style of their own, I thought it went well with his request for power/heavy with an aggressive edge.

Paria is pretty good, so is the Satan follow up Suspended Sentence. Michael Jackson sings on it and its a little more thrashy. Avalance of A Millio Hearts is magnificent.
