Wait, hold on, are you guys denying Opportunity lifts, note-for-note, the "and by the light of the moon" part from Rime of the Ancient Mariner? Or that one song (forget which, rats) has the exact_same opening drum pattern as Flash of the Blade?

Who cares it sounds great anyway.

Yes! Are you kidding me? They're not the same at all! Not at all. Note for note, my ass. Haha.

Oh yeah I'm not saying the album's bad or that Gamma Ray are the first power metal band to quite liberaly plagerise Maiden or Priest...I've just never seen so many absurd similarities on the one album.

Balls. If you can't hear the similarities it's because you're not familiar with the Maiden songs.

Don't be a retard and just go and listen to the thing on youtube. It's a 100% ripoff, that goes to all the maiden songs there. There is even a video on youtube that shows the judas priest ripoffs on that album. There are tons of "similarities" on this new album, there was a few on Majestic, while the rest of the albums were written by a still creative Kai Hansen that had new fresh ideas, but it seems like he totally run out of good ideas on this album and has to borrow every riff from maiden or priest. The worst is that even though Kai has ripped off good songs, they still turned out mediocre on this album! Even on its own and ignoring that he has stealed every riff from maiden or priest on this album it is still gamma ray's by far the worst album so far.

A similarity is far different than a note-for-note theft. Either way, there are similarities in thousands and thousands of songs. There's nothing in those Gamma Ray songs that sounds like plagiarism. Anyone suggesting that is just creating something out of nothing, looking for another way to tear a band down.

I've not actually heard any of the songs, but rather a lot of people seem to be saying that they're similar to the point of suspicion, Ken...

Because some pied piper made a YouTube video, and instead of actually listening to what the clown posted as being "plagiarism," they simply buy it at face value. Anyone without a candle factory amount of wax if their ears can hear that those songs on YouTube are not the same, nor very similar as far as the song is concerned. It's like claiming every band that follows a drummer playing a 4/4 beat is ripping off AC/DC.

Yes, but it's not just random knobs on YouTube. In Terrorizer, the usually reliable Chris Chandler says it's a complete rip-off. I'm not attacking GR for this, I just think it's a case of no smoke without fire. I'll have a listen tomorrow at work and let you know what I think myself instead of criticising without listening... :P

You know if you listen to the cd closely it sounds a lot like Gamma Ray how dare they copy themselves. How many bands are 100% original so many things you hear have been done before who gives a shit. If you have a problem listen to something else .

Honestly Ken, when I first heard the CD I thought "Man, some of this sounds waaaay to much like Maiden." I mean, they've always sounded like Maiden, but some of it is almost note for note.

With that said, this album rules. Gamma Ray still impresses me after all these years.

Point taken. Power Metal is, after all, a completely unoriginal genre.

Lol @ Ken.

Well, I'm only going by that YouTube clip. I don't like Maiden much, so a band could cover one of their songs and I could be fooled into thinking it's an original. With that said, I just don't hear this plagiarism that everyone else is hearing on that YouTube clip. Similarities happen all the time in music. Who cares?

And yeah, I think the album is great.

Uhhhh......no. I came to these conclusions before I read antyhing about them on the net. I've not even watched the YouTube video (might go do that now, actually), and anyway why would I want to run Gamma Ray down? Kai Hansen is a godamn ballsy hero. If you don'd think the Flash of the Blade drum part and the Rime of the Ancient Mariner bass part are identical there's something wrong with your ears, or you've settled into comfortable denial.

The thing is, I think most of these are coincidences anyway. Not the drum part - but most of them. It's no big deal, but there's no point in denying it either.

I'm pretty serious about going into music journalism some day. Still practicing my review skills.

Or maybe I know what "identical" means. :)
