Man, I've had Impossible Figures for ages now, but never really listened to it until recently. What a killer album! Prog hasn't been my style of choice until this past year or so. Since then I've been eating it up like mad, and I haven't gotten sick of it like I did with my stoner rock obsession—still love that shit, though, I just overdosed and had to cut back.
Since giving Impossible Figures a good listen I've gotten Impending Ascension, Test Of Wills and, today, Symphony For A Misanthrope through Lala.com—this site rules!—and Hundred Year Flood is on its way! I can't get enough of this band! They're serious prog-rock, though. They don't shy away from being heavy like Enchant or Spock's Beard, but they also incorporate a lot of that mellow prog-rock stuff. What's great about them is they just write great songs, heavy or mellow. A lot of the more mellow prog bands I've listened to—not bought—have wallowed in that boring, going-nowhere kind of music. Not so with Magellan. They write great tunes!
I don't have much more info than that since they're pretty much a new band to me, but they're quickly becoming a favorite in this genre! So check out some tunes, or discuss them if you're a fan.
